What’s This TV Show About?
A psychological thriller streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, Gypsy centers on Manhattan psychologist Jean Holloway (Naomi Watts). Despite her seemingly perfect life with her husband Michael (Billy Crudup), Jean starts to form inappropriate, intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives. As the boundaries between her professional life and personal fantasies crumble, her desires push her to sink to new lows. Jean is in danger of completely losing touch with reality. The rest of the cast includes Sophie Cookson, Lucy Boynton, Karl Glusman, Melanie Liburd, Poorna Jagannathan, Brenda Vaccaro, and Brooke Bloom.
On August 11, 2017, Gypsy was cancelled so there won’t be a second season. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Because Nielsen doesn’t track streaming platform ratings, it is hard to gauge the performance of TV shows like Gypsy, unless Netflix decides to publicize its success. Early critical reviews from Deadline and USA Today have been mixed. While both outlets commend Watts’ performance, they both also take issue with the writing on Gypsy. Although Netflix has been known for giving its original series time to build an audience, lately, they’ve been a little quicker to cancel TV series like Girlboss and The Get Down after just one season. That knowledge and hose reviews have really whet my appetite. I’ll keep a hungry eye on this show and update this page with any new developments. Very disappointed to learn that there won’t be a second series when so many things are let unanswered. I was intrigued by the show and watched all 10 episodes in one weekend! Loved that the show wasn’t predictable which kept me watching for more… such a shame Netflix has cancelled a second series.

We’re in serious withdrawal after watching all of season 1 and now we’re told season 2 has been cancelled. That’s no way to treat us addicts .
If they cancel this I’m so done with Netflix…tired of getting into a great series only to find Netflix has cancelled again! Give it time to catch on Netflix!!!!
I love it!! Kept me on the edge of my seat. I often feel disappointed that they cancel shows so quickly. Same thing happened with “The returned” which ironically enough never did return and I hold a grudge till this day. #KeepGypsyOnTheAir
I think it was a terrible decision to cancel Gypsy after only one season. It was a well written, original series with great actors. It deserved a second season at least to see where the storylines were going. Netflix needs to reconsider and give it a fighting chance!
Stupid decision by Netflix. Sorry Sophie and Naomi – we were eagerly awaiting a second, third, fourth season. So glad most of my streaming comes from Amazon….I’m done with Netflix. N-FX should have polled only women to see if Gypsy should have been renewed…..we loved it.

Excellent show from Netflix! I watched all of season 1 in 2 days. Then a will later I watched the whole series again. Please renew for a second season! I love it! It’s sexy, suspenseful, addicting, and just plain fascinating. I LOVE Naomi Watts. ❤️
