After its debut, it looked like the new Hawaii Five-0 was one of those rare animals — a revival of a classic TV show that didn’t crash and burn immediately. Still, the series isn’t turning out to be as big a success as CBS might like you to believe. The series started off very strong in the ratings but has been losing steam every week.
Hawaii Five-0 debuted on September 20th to a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic (the number that the networks care about) and 14.2 million total viewers. In week two, those numbers dropped 8% but that really isn’t bad for a new show. In week three, they dropped another 3%. This past Monday, they dropped a whopping 11%, hitting a low of a 3.1 rating and 10.7 million viewers.
The CBS series still places first in its timeslot, most closely challenged by Castle. That ABC series registered a 2.7 and 10.66 million viewers this week, up 4% from last week. If Hawaii 5-0’s downward trend continues, it won’t be long before the show loses in the timeslot and could end up in danger by the end of the season. For now, it’ll almost certainly get an order for nine more episodes bringing it to a full season. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see.
Interestingly, last year’s timeslot holder, CSI: Miami was doing much better at this point in the season. After four episodes, it was averaging a 4.1 in the demo and 13.72 million while Hawaii Five-0 is currently averaging a 3.5 rating and 12.47 million. Perhaps CBS should have left Miami in its old timeslot.
What do you think? Will Hawaii Five-0 end up surviving past this season? Was it a mistake for CBS to boot CSI: Miami out of its established timeslot?

Hawaii Five-O is no more outlandish than All the CSI’s who are using technology that doesn’t exist at this moment in time, if it is suggested they will apply it. That is why it’s called fiction. Science Fiction at that! Hawaii Five-O is just trying to be more flashy that the original with Jack Lord that lasted twelve years with story lines that were poorer and more flimsy that this new one. Watching episodes more than once is recommended to catch all the things they say and do. The New Hawaii Five-O has been falshier than it’s original counterpart. It… Read more »
I agree. I love the new Hawaii Five 0 because it is different from the old one because if it was the same then it would be boring. The new one has a lot of action and is very different because Danno and Steve could stand each other in the other one alot better and the biggest difference is Kono because he used to be a man now it is a woman. Still I love both of them and I certainly hope that they don’t cancel it. 🙂
I think that the new Hawaii five o is awesome and they moved miami to sunday night only to make room for another great show. It’s certainly different from the old one but the changes they made are good ones.
I love Hawaii 5-o. Don’t cancel!
Though the show has some hokeiness ,
the writing isn’t horrible it’s just not strong.
The show has potential but is simply lacking better suspense.
I’m a fan of the old show, so I’m hoping they get it together and make it involved. I do think someone should mention that in Hawaii cops drive their own vehicles.
I love the show too!!! I wouldn’t have moved CSI: Miami I would have put Hawaii on Sunday nights. The only thing I don’t like about it is how little time it takes to finish off the bads guys. There are no really good fight or chase scenes. But other than that I love it!!!
i love hawaii 5-0. i agree with kevin this is fictional and supposed to be outlandish. its supposed to be entertainment and it does very well at entertaining. i dont enjoy reality tv at all and never watch it. i think they have done a great job with this program and really hope it stays for those of us who like it!
the show would do better if on another night because football games are on an fans watch them.I would give it another chance the guys are great a good draw for tv.
Police Consultants?? If you want actual boring police work and regulations go watch Cops or one of the SWAT shows on reality TV. This is fiction its supposed to be outlandish.
this program is boring and predictable.
welcome to network television
I am in agreement with you texasblues. I really enjoy the show and the scenery
It’s about time we got some true entertainment on television and less of CSI
Hopefully CBS will stick with 5-0 and give it a fighting chance
Are you crazy! Hawaii-five-o is awesome! Yeah, they don’t have offical police cars because they are not “offical” police! They are the Governer’s task force. They have more pull then the police does. They can get away with more. The casting is great and it’s one of my favorite new shows.
FUC/< you cbs
i agree cbs should’ve left things the way it were
csi miami on mondays
The pathetic casting by Rachel Sutton has made the series even worse.
I agree this show is so hokey it is painful to watch. Poor Grace Park. The pilot was terrible. The episodes got slightly better, but are poorly written. I am about to give up on it. Some of the scenes are silly — you can’t get your daughter out of federal custody by showing a badge, you can’t threaten to throw people off buildings or shove bad prison guards into the inmate population. They apparently have no official cars, instead using their own vehicles. They use cell phones instead of two-way radios. They never call for backup, instead entering situations… Read more »
joseph is not paying attention to the story.
one this is not cops so cops can be outlandish.
two in hawaii the cops personal vehicle is the official car
three they don’t call for back up because (based on the storyline) the cops are compromised and 5.0 isn’t sure who to trust.
though i do agree better writing would clarify things a bit.
