NBC already has one medical TV show on the schedule with Chicago Med and another one, The Night Shift, is expected to return this summer. Does the peacock network need a third? Will Heartbeat be a ratings success or DOA? Cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
Set at the fictional St. Matthew’s Hospital, Heartbeat follows a cardio-thoracic surgeon, Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George), as she tries to juggle her personal and professional lives. She eagerly fights authority, particularly when it comes to her patients’ health and well-being. The rest of the cast includes Dave Annable, Don Hany, Joshua Leonard, Jamie Kennedy, D.L. Hughley, Shelley Conn, Maya Erskine, and J. Louis Mills.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/13 update: NBC has cancelled Heartbeat after one season. Details here.
5/26 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Heartbeat TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I love this show. YES to SEASON 2… Please!!!!!!!!!!
I love this show
I absolutely LOVE this show! It shows a strong, independent woman pushing the boundaries of science while living an unconventional lifestyle. I love Alex’s crazy blended personality & the fact she’s not afraid to fight for what she believes is right! Just because she’s not an addict or male, like in House (which I also loved) doesn’t mean this story line isn’t interesting for a lot of us. Please let the rest of the season air, so other people might be able to finally see what makes this show great! Biting wit & humor, real life struggles & people not… Read more »
We appreciate you being a fan…..JLouis Mills(Forester)
I love Heartbeat. It is a very good show. Please don’t cancel it or cancel mysteries of Laura.
Please understand this show is meant to have just the right amount of light comedy and drama, and it does. The cast is great, storyline great, and based on a real heart surgeon. Please keep this on. NBC fails many times in not giving shows a chance.
Please, give this one a chance. Mixing the romance with the medical is not going to be something that will fly to stardom right out of the gate, but it will grow steadily and gain a loyal group of expanding viewers.
The first episode was hard to get into. But the more the series runs, the more I like it. The cases are really interesting, not the roll your eyes where did they get this bizarre case from. I hate the numbers are low on this show.
We need shows like Heartbeat to provide balance to the full on dramas that already exist. Heartbeat provides us with humor as well as emotional content making it an enjoyable comedy drama.
Would rather see reruns of Mysteries of Laura. Heartbeat is not any good. The only two shows NBC has on that are any good are Grimm and Mysteries of Laura and NBC hasn’t even renewed either of them. I will be soooo done with NBC if they don’t renew these two shows.
Oh please, Mystery of laura is an entirely different show. This show is amazing, the writing, acting. Don’t compare apples to oranges. Besides Mystery of laura to me is getting old and played out.
Can Heartbeat, looked like it had promise but it is not even a close second to Mysteries of Laura. Being MOL back! Amazing on the edge of your seat writing, talented acting with a relationship with fans, tremendous cast and crew. A winner. Just needs more promotion.
I truly believe in comparison to its competition with Mysteries with Laura .The show cant compare. It unfortunately does not have what the cast of Mysteries of Laura brings every week. MOL hands down. Heartbeat just doesn’t capture the audience
OH PLEASE SINCE WHEN DI YOU ALL BECOME TV CRITICS
ow do you compare a medical show to a cop show?
If it can’t get ratings in the 1.2 area, NBC will choose MOL over it as a renewal option because of their love affair with Debra Messing. It better get its rear end in gear.
This show is engaging with a great mix of comedy and drama . I think the writing is better than Chicago med
MEE TOO !!!!! AGREED
Great show. Fun, tense (but not too tense; I already know a lot of sick people), complex, and melissa George is a joy to watch. Glad she has her own show to star in. Hope they give it enough time to find an audience. Based on a real doctor and hero, btw…
This show would be great if the voices were clear when speaking. At first I thought it was just me but when my husband said that he couldn’t understand a word they were say….well, that said it all.
The volume of the music is much higher that the volume of their voices. Also, they mumble too much.
I couldn’t figure our if that show is a comedy or a drama. It played more like a comedy. It’s downright silly. I won’t watch it again. I’ll stick with Chicago Med, Code Blue and Night Shift. They are all so much better.
I agree Gary. Melissa George is too over t top with her acting. Was disappointed with the show.
Yes, feel free to cancel this one a.s.a.p.
I agree. It stinks. The sooner it’s cancelled the better.
I’m not a Melissa George fan myself, but I’m a fan of Dr. Gearheart’s work. This is TV, however: & that makes all the difference. I’m not wasting my time on some “soapy, weak, medical thing!” BYE, “Heartbeat!”
I haven’t watched it yet but have it set up to watch on Hulu. After seeing all the negative comments about this show, I might not watch it on Hulu. I love all the medical shows you listed here. My DVR only records 2 shows and there is just too much to watch and I am actually thinking of cutting the cord with Dish.
Direct tv better & can record 4 shows at once. Watch it on HULU. It will grow on you. By the second episode you will love it.
It’s both. And they pull off both the comedy and drama well!
Doug, watch more than one episode. It grows on you. Too many people watch something once and if it doesn’t grab them immediately…no second chance. I was ready to give up part way through the first episode but liked it by the end. Told the wife she would love it and she did. Now we are both hooked and the second episode solidified our attendance.
