After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I have been waiting all this time for them to bring Heros back. I thought it would maybe be back in the fall but to find out it is cancelled that is awful!!!!! Did they cancel Kings also ??? because this is also a good show. Also Fox ended 24, all the good shows are leaving. I know they can’t stay forever but at least finish them (i.e. :Heros).
Big mistake, I love this show made me feel like a kid again
I am pissed too, it was also the only show that I followed. I am double pissed
To be quite frank, i’m pissed. that was the only show i’ve ever actually followed or payed attention to. now it’s gone. p.s. reality shows suck
NBC seriously blows. The show was entertaining. There were plenty of viewers. I guess General Electric didn’t like it. I stopped purchasing GE products due to their political policies. I now will delete the NBC channel. My nielson cards we send we show that.
Thank you, big networks, for helping us make the decision to cancel cable and just do internet. $60 more a month in my pocket and I don’t have to get frustrated with your programing.
I can’t believe they cancelled it!!!! I have been sitting waiting for the new season to start and now I find out my favorite show was pulled!?!?!?!? And the shows NBC have now are sooo lame. Well I guess I’m gona have to stock with FOX
I am so upset they cancelled Heroes. That was the only show I liked anymore. I am so done with NBC. They have nothing left of interest.
My comrades and I have been watching heroes since it first came out when I was in Iraq. That was the only show that got us through our deployments, waiting for every Monday to catch heroes, and the next thing you know 15 months was up. Now, I am in Afghan and there is nothing for us too look forward to but buying all the old seasons from heroes and watching them over. I think I will get hooked on TrueBlood, because I’ve seen a few of their episodes and it is actually great. I don’t know why NBC is… Read more »
What is wrong with these networks: ABC, CBS, & NBC. Are they all going insane? They keep cancelling the good shows and keeping all the boring reality shows. In my and both my sisters households no one is going to watch any of the new shows coming up. Instead we opted to watch TNT, USA, LMN, Lifetime, Syfy and A&E. These networks cancel alot less shows than the others.
Ok, really i’m the same as toni k. My daughter and i only watch a few shows on t.v and the few we watch are getting cancelled. Heros is one of her favorites which is funny cuz she is 6. i have you know when i found out heroes was cancelled and told her about it she cryed because she’s in love with Peter. Tell me thats not sweet and sad. I say they should bring it back its bad enough another our family show (Legend of the seeker) is cancelled. So Come on NBC dont take the best show… Read more »
yeah just found out that heroes was canceled….where have i been?sitting around waiting for the new episodes……i am seriously irritated….i only watch a handful of shows as it is…..cause i can’t stand reality shows.(maybe cause they aren’t real)….they did the same thing to the show invasion….my son and i were into both shows and they pulled the plug….come on nbc……quit taking away our great programming
I can not believe they canceled my show, but NBC is known for canceling look at “My Worst Own Enemy” they canceled that show and now Heroes, this don’t make no sense
I hope they can resolve this issue.
best damn show that was on TV, seems like every time a network has a show i really like they cancel it. Might as well just stop watching TV. Give us an ending or a whole nother season
