After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

My husband and I got hooked on Heroes. We were so saddened that NBC decided to cancel it. We would definitely watch a wrap up event! We want closure!

This was hands down my favorite show! I was never into comics but it really brought the imagination and hope into tv again! Been a fan since day one. I really hope they give some kind of closure or maybe cable can pick it up. Who knows! Missing my HEROES
i just finshed watching season 4
i was shocked
I loved watching this show, hate to see it go. I won’t hold my breath waiting for NBC to make a finale though…still waiting on a ending for Journeyman.
I can’t believe this show was cancelled – and with no good reason – and with no closure. It was a very different show with a great story! and every good story at least deserves to have it’s ending.
I have little faith in NBC as a company who wants to entertain the public when they yank good shows at will? Why should I get involved with another drama only to wonder if it’s story will be truncated – that’s not entertaining… that’s frustrating!!
This is simply horrible!!! I was an absolute die hard fan!! I need & want to see a series finale. It’s critical to my state of mind. NBC really needs to do it’s research because I just know there are millions of fans that would enjoy a conclusion to the story we’ve all Bern loving for 4 wonderful seasons
I agree that seasons 2 & 3 were weak in comparison to season 1, but season 4 was totally awesome! There are still things that can happen with this show; Silar-good or evil? Peter-savior or dark prince? Clair-sweet or sour? I mean, this TV series was the beginning of something dark and twisted and yet spiraling with the hopes of a different tomorrow. I really hope that this series continues on. It was something that the whole family could watch together and enjoy… always leaving us craving for more. What will happen with Samuel gone? Could the show still go… Read more »
Heroes, was great to me all the seasons. What was NBC thinking when they canceled the show. Now I don’t have nothing to watch this fall because everything has been canceled. This Fall 2010 line up for new show is not interesting like cover up, get rid of it. What happen to the Law and Order show. Now we have Law and Order LA which is pretty good so far but bring the Law and Order back. I hope they will bring Heroes back to resolved the ending from last season.
Well, it’ s just like it always is. The Good shows get canceled, or at least the one’s I like to watch, and the bad shows get copied again and again! Didn’t expect this, even though the show was getting pretty weak in the last seasons. Oh well, I’m used to it. At least there is are other networks with Decent Shows to watch…although not at this time…yet
The best damn syfy show to date with some of the best effects seen on tv. Damn u don’t need to cancel.
I, too, am sorry to hear that the series is cancelled. Season One and Two were so different from other shows. I agree that Season Three was too confusing and introduced too many plot variations and new characters. However, just leaving things as they ended this season isn’t right, either. Going back to the previous seasons and cleaning things up would be a much fitting ending. Yes, we’ll watch whatever they decided to do to end this series.
I am SOOO upset that Heroes will not be returning! This is devastating news especially since they left Season 4 with us wanting more. I do have to say I think the writer was doing a little too much by introducing more and more people with “special powers” as Season 2 and 3 didn’t quite hold my attention. I really hope they find a way to complete the series as nothing should be left undone! PLEASE don’t leave the fans hanging!!
I too am so bummed that NBC cancelled the show. I believe this show brought me back to watching tv and believing again in there might be “heroes” out there and thus brought the kid out in me. I’ve been waiting for the announcements for it’s season start and must’ve missed all the hype of it’s cancellation. I do hope NBC reconsiders this show, but know it’s all about something else…….. This show brought out imagination and make believe in me…..”Save the Cheerleader, Save the World”.
As a mother of five, it is very difficult to find time to do lots of things. We, as a family, found time to watch this one show together. There was something about it that all of us enjoyed. Although, Season 2 and 3 were weak in comparison to Season 1, we were still finding the time to watch the shows together. Season 4 was more entertaining and the ending left us wanting more. I hope that they decide to produce a movie to bring some closure….
WHAT?!?!?! ARE YOU SERIOUS………what are they thinking………oh i know $$$……I’m so disappointed! They better do something….you CAN’T leave it hanging like that!!!!!!!!!! eerrrgggghhhh………. so many shows get canceled, but this was actually a GREAT ONE!!
