After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

Another killing of a good thing by the DA’s @ NBC!
the first season was awesome, but the rest sucks, no wonder NBC canceled it. Overdue!
The end of this show came a long time ago for me….lazy writers who lost focus mid-way through season two killed it. And when the cast kept expanding and doing nothing with the really interesting characters, it signaled the end for me.
Also…it lost it’s bang when save the cheerleader/save the world never really happened…and the whole villans theme….yawn….Quinto over acting so he could learn to play Spock!
how could the can heroes but keep chuck
Ok i was pissed about the Conan situation and was convinced a bunch of one armed monkeys were making decisions there, but now after learning they are cancelling the only other reason i watched that crapfactory of a station, i am fully aware that the people at nbc need to replace whatever Fucktard is in charge of deciding what shows stay and get cancelled. Cancel that person.
Really enjoyed the earlier series but the last one was very disappointing, very disjointed so probably best to let it go after the loose ends are tied up.
The first season was amazing, but the rest of them were awful. I gave up watching it and I think it is about time they cancelled it before it gets even worse
WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY JUST CANCEL HEROES. THIS IS SO WRONG. AT LEAST GIVE US A PROPER ENDING. BUT REALLY, JUST DON’T CANEL THE SHOW. WRONG. THIS IS ALL SO WRONG.
WTF!?!?!?!? OMG!?!??! WTF!!!! Well first season made this my fave show ever!!! My first tv series too. I loved Sylar!!! Damn Hiro, Claire and Peter shi*-*d all over the story, and the Ando/Hiro funny (NOT!) parts… meh! WTH were these writers thinking?! The show deserved to be kicked out long time ago but it should have like 6 more episodes to conclude the story. A 4 hour episode, or whatever just wont be enough. This sucks!!! Again, F all Hiro, Claire and Peter plots… long live SYLAR!!! 🙂 Only reason I needed to watch the show. Now I feel sorry… Read more »
It’s proof that Hollywood is about the money and has forgotten the art. This story had potential.
I am soooooooo upset! All of my shows that I have been addicted to have been canceled in the past 2 years! This bites the big one though because we had no damn warning! How can you put a show on for so long with such a large story line and just “turn it off”?? Tell those CEO’s to give up the house in Hawaii and just settle for the other 4 houses they each have and pay the cast to end the show like it should with a season finale!! NBC YOU OFFICIALLY SUCK!
I’m about to cry my eyes out
🙁 This was one of the two shows that i followed religiously! I’m gonna miss Milo and Zach the most… I didn’t wanna believe it was cancelled when I saw it on Facebook, but I guess its true 🙁 When I read this a little piece of me broke inside. I agree with the others, its the writers fault! The show should keep going but with different writers. This was the only good show NBC ever had (other than The Office)!
