After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I miss having this show to watch since there is too many reality shows on TV that make me want to puke and all those stupid contest shows that are way over dramatized. And in some regards I can understand a possible reason it was cancelled because the writers kept going in too many different directions with the story. On the first season they had a story line that could be followed, but then it went all over the place after that and kept getting more out of control. Don’t get me wrong I loved the series and found it… Read more »
Wow! Im very dissapointed. I used to look forward every Monday watching that show…. Though the story line was sometimes hard to follow sue to the fact that there was so many characters but overall it was a modern herioc show. I loved it i wish there would be at least one whole season to rap it up rather than a two hour special.
i watched the show start to finsh on netfilx in the past month i loved it! now its gone and i feel so
I was truly shocked to have found out that Heroes was cancelled. I can honestly say that Heroes was my favorite show of all time. The cast was awesome throughout the entire seasons. Its ashamed that money was the big deal of the shows cancellation. I think that the show ended at the worse moment of the saga, the entire world was gonna find out about people having special abilities. What a shame!
Good Show — NBC executives ought to re-examine the quick and abrupt end. I think quite a few people would tune in for a four or six part conclusion.
Heroes was the only (new) show I have been watching for some time now.
The networks have nothing but crap on.
Heroes reminds me of Jericho another show canelled well before its time.
Sorry NBC but you have really screwed up by cancelling a good show.
I will go back to the sci-fi channel for Caprica, Ghost Hunters, and Destination Truth.
You have made it so people dont even want to watch the first 4 seasons now because
there is no decent ending. Way to SUCK!!!
To bad Caprica is getting cancelled as well
I was looking so forward to watching this season of Heroes. I wonder if NBC took into account those who steam the internet? I do not have TV per sey. I stream it from Hulu and connect it to my flat screen TV. Maybe the maker should consider moving the show to a different network and keep it going. The movie might be okay but a mini series ending would be better. It would’ve done just as well to bring it back for the season and end it than to cut it and think of other options later.
this was my favorite show! I was so shocked and mad when they cancelled it. It was a great show, and ended with so many questions left unanswered. they need to bring it back or at least make a few more final episodes wrapping the show up.
Heroes was such an incredible show ! its a shame that it was cancelled. Poo on Them !
I hate that they cancelled this program. It was really good, so what happens to the cheerleader and her dad?????????????? Do they stay buried forever or what? I thought it was getting good what happened. The only thing that sort of compares to this that I watch when I am not watching re-runs on all the different channels, Is Ordinary Family, but I’ve missed most of that so when it comes out on Netflix I will watch it. I had actually gotten caught up on the Heros season on Netflix so I could be caught up for last years series… Read more »

I absolutely loved Heroes and was so shocked to hear it was cancelled. It was a great show and so much was left unanswered.
Not a happy chappy!!
Such idiots for cancelling such a great show!!!!
Bummer just stared watching Hero’s for the first time last year and was absolutely enthralled ! I can’t believe it was just canceled out of thin air! It was my favorite show on t.v. I had never watched a show religiously like that in a decade
