After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I think i’m going to follow in James M’s idea. I think if NBC was so down on the show, and they really cared about its fans, they should have at least sold the rights of the show to another network.
Heroes was a great show and loved the characters etc… but I think it run its course now and it really needs a closure now to finish it, so I do hope they give it an ending please 🙂 .
I learned my lesson getting so involved in series like Invasion to stop watching network TV COMPLETELY! If a show seems like it will interest me, I wait until the season hits DVD & buy a used one on Amazon for $20 or so and that’s the most I lose. If I like it I buy further seasons. No more investing an hour each week of my life just to be left hanging with no ending. My way puts the control in MY HANDS & out of the stupid network’s!
F-That! If NBC wants to be all about the money, and not give a crap about us “the fans” then i will not be watching another minute of their programming! SCREW YOU NBC!!!
I loved Heroes and am very sad to see it end. I agree with the others that there needs to be an ending! It was very interesting…even better than LOST. I loved the characters and the fact that Syler was given a chance to redeem himself. The acting was great also! Now what am going to watch?!
y would u do such a thing, this show was one of my feveirt shows man and end the show like that like come on no good 🙁
I LIKED HEROES ALOT, HIRO IZ MY BOI LOL …2 BAD NO MORE HEROES IVE BEEN WATCHN IT 4 THE LAST 2weeks….FINALLY DONE AND 4 WHAT!!!!
Very sad to hear heroes has been cancelled it was my favourite programe and i never missed an episode. I really hope the guys at NBC reconsider and continue with heroes my evening are now so boring I want heroes back on please
Heros was the most addictive series we have watched right next to Lost and Weeds. The Cape has some big size 15 shoes to fill if that is what they intened, replacing a group of super heros with 1 guy in a cape.
great show and sad to see it end.Like many of the tv series I collect, this is just going to be one of those incomplete series because someone somewhere didn’t see fit to bring it to its final conclusion as with other series I bought on dvd such as “alien nation,Space:above and beyond and Earth two”.You would think that at least a tv movie could be made to bring it to a final conclusion. It is becauseof this way that tv networks think is why I would rather buy dvd’s and not watch tv altogether. Why get hooked on a show that… Read more »
I am very disappointed Heros has been cancelled. I enjoyed watching it and I loved the storylines. Nbc is now my least favorite station.
I am really just ticked off cause why end a season with it saying season 5 or volume 6 or whatever and then not follow up on it? I hate liars and I hate it when everyone is so ready for the next best thing and then its just gone. Oh well thats life, filled with nothing but backstabbing jerks.
very sad heros cancelled..remember invasion? just ended with no conclusion! heros season 4 was a little weak (still loved it tho) I agree the strike put everybody on hold and then the split season..but we still hung in there waiting for the show to return.. my adult children would recap each episode and look forward to the next..now another new “hero” series the cape???? yeah sure we’ll waste our time getting hooked ..at least Lost had an ending “sort of” Lost said they would be on for so many years so we new there would be an end…
Heroes was overall a great show and yes the last season was not as great as the first three but there needs to be an ending!!!! Really no ending?? You just wasted everyone’s time who followed this series. And really, how much of my life, sleep and brain cells have I lost sitting numb in front of a t.v. and now not know how it ends. -It can be a horrible ending for all I care but at least provide an end to this misery. Oh, and by the way, now you have a new series “The Cape” or whatever… Read more »
This is one of the few shows we looked forward to watching every week. Even when we had company over we had to watch Heroes. If there was someone that had never seen it they would be hooked when they left our house. NBC please reconsider what you are doing. Is the series that replaces Heros going to be better? I seriously doubt it. Your biggest problem was the writers strike. We missed alot of shows and we got really confused. We finally went and bought them and are back on track. We will miss Heroes more then any other… Read more »
