After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

This I think is 1 of the stupidest moves nbc can make. I don’t know about the rest of the world but we usually buy the whole seasons on dvd because we tend to miss a lot off the tv when we try to watch because of work and kids. Also I don’t know about the rest of the world but where we live we. Have had to take to special ordering the box sets when they come out because they sell out here as soon as they hit the shelves. It took us almost a month just to get… Read more »
NBC, The least you could have done if you had decided to cancel HEROES for whatever reasons you had was to give it a happy ending and not leave so many loyal viewers hanging by showing a piece of what was comming in the new season that never came. Integrity is a virtue, which obviously NBC lacks. Loyalty goes both ways. How difficult would it have been to do a 4 episode mini series or something like that to end this great TV show in a positive and fair way for your viewers and the cast of Heroes. NBC you… Read more »
I agree with the fact that there are 28 different versions of law and order and every single one puts me to sleep. Heroes is an amazing show. I need closure! They want you to watch shows, then you get into them, and then they just cancel them? wtf?
I enjoy harrys law and the cape…
I admittedly got started watching this show a bit late but loved it from the begining to the end. I can’t believe that I have dedicated this much time to a show I loved only to.find out it got cancelled, but The Biggest Looser is somehow returning for yet another season. NBC as long as I watch tv I will never dedicate any of my time to anything you put on television ever again. Thanks for ruining my month an wasting my time.
What makes me the most mad is the networks build up these shows to get you to watch and be interested and then up and stop them without giving the fans any closure! We have no one to complain to….bunch of idiots! I’ve gotten interested in soooo many shows, only to have them cancelled and then it leaves met hanging. Will we continue to be suckers for all the hype, or just stop watching new shows altogether? I, f or one have just about had it! At least have the decency to give us an ending when a show gets… Read more »
MAn i just started watching this show about 2 months ago in netflix and just today i seen the last season. I gotta say this show was one of the greatest shows i ever seen on tv. I didnt even knew it existed and if it wasnt for netflix i would of never known. If its true that this show is cancelled great i thing it ended in a well finale with Sylar becoming a good guy and everyone together saving the world. But it also left a lot of things unanswered like what happen to that indian dude well… Read more »
I donno about the pollitics of it all, but I will say one thing about something I do know: NBC, you have dissapointed me enough with your decision to end Heroes, that I have decided to take time out of my day to show my seething anger towards your station in the form of this….. forum. Not one of my friends, nor family members had anything remotely negative to say about the series- other than the fact that there was an immense ungratitude for the crappy way it was so rudely interrupted- right when it was beginning to get interesting… Read more »
we need heroes, heroes is the best entertaining series, shame on you nbc to cut of heroes only for the financial reasons and put low quality stuff that does makes money. NBC you are commercial in the most wrong way ever, if you promoted heroes enough, cash would flow over the table. Heroes attracts people from 13-65 who all got money. We know that 50-70 year olds got some money and they couldn’t get to put their criticism on the internet. Yet NBC is still failing and the popularity of NBC goes down and down and down till NBC gets… Read more »
we care less for the tv.we want heroes back
NBC should at least sell the show to FX so they can have all the best shows on TV. For some reason NBC thinks people should only watch quality television on thursdays between 7 and 11.
One of the most entertaining and enaging series in a very long time. Sometimes a little outlandish, but for those intelegent enough to follow very entertaining. Yes I will watch watever way, shaoe or form that the preoducers choise to end the series, and will morn it’s lost
You know I was finally getting to like watching NBC again……and then poof they go and cancel the one show I had in common with my co-workers….something that I could actually talk about and not feel like some poser geek.
I for agree with the above post. Law and order has run it’s courses and yet they continue bringing in new ways to run the series. I mean SVU had to resort to bringing in Large Name stars just to get people watch the shows again.
Well yet again NBC has chosen screw the public with their blatant misguided programming.
That’s NBC for ya! They have sucked for the last 10 years for a reason….. the management of nbc are idiots, they have like 4 different kinds of law and order that all suck!! Heroes was nbc’s highest rated show in nearly 7 years, obviously management never heard the phrase “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” With Heroes they attracted a younger audience, but since they had to be morons and cancel it, it’s just a matter of time before they fold when their current audience of 40-50 years olds die. lets look at the shows they have NOT… Read more »
I really like this show. But you idiots at NBC had to go and cancel it. I’m getting pretty sick of good TV shows coming on and then just ending with no explanation. What’s really sad is that some of the best shows that I have watched are from BBC. if you ask me I think it’s pathetic. You can’t even get a good TV show here. Here’s some advice, if you want more people to watch your shows then make GOOD ones and keep them GOING TILL THE END. Don’t just STOP it like that. Make a movie or… Read more »
