After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

They Better at lease finish it up. Other wise say goodbye to me and who knows how manny more of their veiwers. I don’t think they have to play out the whole season but a least give it a ending (Thats What You Veiwers Want.)
WOW, I am just now finding out after waiting and looking for this show to start it’s next season that’s it’s been canceled. I don’t watch tv on the regular so that’s my fault. But NBC should really be ashamed of themselves for canceling a show that was such a big hit. I’m friggin’ 42yrs and I was eagerly awaiting the start of the season of Heroes like a kid and that’s because it was that good of a show. Like everyone is saying ” They can at least have a 2 or 4 hr show to end it “.
man this really makes me mad. one of my favorite series just ends like this. it reminds me of jericho. i was just starting to get into it and it gets cancelled. why don’t we just cancel all good movies too. and why in the 5th season? right where it was getting really good they cancel it. it’s like they’re teasing us. or just waiting for a response.
ca po dallure fau qui fasse au moin une coupe dépisode la serie etai ecoeurante je trouve pi a peu po finir de mem

One more thing i forgot to mention. You always here a show getting canceled because of budget issues. In some cases this is true. But I would say that Heroes is the biggest show NBC had going for themselves. Its like what Ki posted in a comment,”Are they crashing themselves on purpose?” Well it certainly had me pondering the answer to that question. I would love to see Heroes continue, if not for one more season, then at least a decent 2 to 4 hour special. Id rather see money go to that than some of those other shows NBC… Read more »
I think Heroes is one of the best shows out there. I have read it was showing poorly in the ratings as the series went on, and that the storyline was to blame, this is just outragious. I previously finished watching the entire series on Netflix. In my opinion, the series only made me more interested as it went on, every episode left me wanting more. I know a series can’t last forever, but the least you could do is give it a proper ending. To just say you are going to cancel it all together is just wrong. This… Read more »
Wow I’m highly disappointed in nbc, if they dont finish the storyline I will make sure its known that no one buys any show from nbc, I’ve bought all 4 seasons of heroes n that’s it? No ending? Wow nbc you should be ashame n stupid to do that..
I am sad to see Heroes discontinued… But I really do think that it was stupid for them not to wrap it up in some way. They will probably lose business because now their viewers are weary that something like this will happen to another show. You never see something like this on ABC.
nbc sucks that show was the best we have ever watched. they could have told ppl that it was cancelling the show were ppl wont be waiting for it to come back on . and yes they are really losing money big time.
Every Art form as to have some meaning. If there is no finale to give it that meaning there is no reason to watch. Nobody will buy the dvd’s in all it’s format hi def ,3d etc. It’s no point.YOU WILL LOSE MONEY IN LONG RUN NBC.
90 minute finale will be in your long term interest
At least give an ending like medium.wrap it all up in a 2 hour finali
i am highly upset that Heroes was cancled i really liked thats show y’all should bring it back.
Dear God, WHO can ever begin to explain why NBC sucks so badly??? The don’t give a flying crap about their viewers, they protect the man who destoryed late night, and they randomly cancel their single watchable show. Dang. Are they crashing themselves on purpose? What is their secret evil plan?
I cannot believe the network actually nix’d this show! I loved it. I just found out it was cancelled. I hope they at least end it properly.
