Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

This show is one we look forward to every week. Now that every one has DVR’s . We may not watch @8 p.m. on Wednesday night but we do watch it every time it is on.
This and Bones are the only two shows on Fox we watch . The cast is great and the humor is great. Please think twice about this one.
Wow! I just noticed the same ‘hidden’ wording by FOX for BOTH Human Target and Lie To Me. I used to think that FOX was finally becoming one of the more creative networks outside of USA & FX for interesting and cutting edge programs. Now, I wonder how far behind NBC they will be at the end of the year?! Get with it FOX clean up the overall cast plotlines and leave them alone so the viewer can have good consistency, now that FOX seems to have a good flow to this show, they want to kill it. AND Lie… Read more »
Love this show and the characters. One of the best shows on TV in my opinion.
I love this show. I hope it does not get cancelled. I think we could all do without American Idol…who even remembers who the last few winners were.
I tell you this. American Idol sucks I believe in my heart they already know who is going to win. I don’t watch anything on fox but Human Target and I accdently found out it’s being shuffled around because I stumbled on this site. I ask you this, how can you expect anybody to watch this show when you promote it less than half of what you promote anything else.
To follow up on my previous post, please keep Human Target. It is my favorite and deserves to be treated better.
Season 2 ratings have tanked because Fox decided to “fix” something that wasn’t broken, and in doing so promptly caused many of HT fans to look elsewhere for their entertainment, including me. I had no interest in watching a neutered Chance, Guerrero, or Winston, hated the music substitution and loss of Bear McCreary’s wonderful Season 1 score, and for heaven’s sake, could not stand to watch Ames any more after her grease and strip down episode. Pathetic.
Jonathan E. Steinberg, you were a genius. Too bad Fox couldn’t see that. We did. You were missed this year.
Go back to the season one formula. Knock off the obvious bid for ratings by using eye candy. Give the dang show a decent time slot and let the actors and writers develop the show. They have great actors to work with. Why on earth are they messing with a formula that worked? I would have more clues about Chance’s past and have him confront more of those issues and actions he took.
While this year has certainly not been as good as last, I believe it is at least partially due to not knowing when it would debut and very little hype from Fox. I still love it. It’s the only show of it’s type on the air currently, sort of a poor man’s 24 (stretch) if you will!
My wife and I like this show. We would hate to see it canceled!
This show is perfect for 8 p.m. It is fun and engaging and the cast is great. Apart from Glee and Fringe, it is the only Fox show I watch. I regret it doesn’t have a larger audience.
I couldn’t agree more! There is not much I enjoy on TV, nothing else on Fox, but I LOVE this show!
I think another station should pick it up. Season 1 was better, I have to agree. The only reason season 2 is a bummer is pucci. I like ames, but pucci? Not so much. She’s so annoying. There was also no need to change the intro music. For some reason that bugs me.
I love human target. if they take it off the air I will quit watching fox station
Doesn’t surprise me. The show has sucked this season thanks to all the changes made by the new showrunner, who clearly doesn’t have a clue as to what he’s doing. Between that and the fact Fox seems incapable of knowing how to handle genre shows (Firefly, anyone?), I say just kill the show already and put it out of its misery. Season 1 was fantastic. Season 2 has just been awful.
This is one of the very few Fox shows we watch. If they cancel it, we will just watch a different station.
I’m a regular. If it is cancelled, I’ll see what replaces it and make a decision.
