Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

Please, please renew Human Target. My husband and I always looked forward to the show (that is when we could find it)-it’s fun & escapism all rolled into one show.
Fox cancel someother show & renew Human Target.
I agree. Whenever a good show comes on it ends up getting cancelled. Examples- The Unit, Life, Undeclared. I really like this show. If I see another show about forensic science or a cop show I will scream.
I loved this show the first time around and this time to. Now because of a few gliches we cancel it. Is are voice not heard. What is it with all the reality crap. I’m sick of american idol and the others that are all on the same night.
Fox is the cartoon channel. Between phoney reality shows and cartoons there is nothing on Fox. I called it the cartoon channel but I guess that it’s more like the channel for the brain dead. Human Target was the last show on Fox that I found worth watching. But hey, TNT and USA are getting some good shows.
Just discovered the show a month ago – loved it. Bought the DVD’s, downloaded the ones I couldn’t. By my word-of-mouth I made some friends love it too. Now it’s going to get canceled? I had a hard enough time getting the newbies hooked what with all the time slot changes! Give it a stable time slot and market it to the demographics (action, humor, sex) and there’s no way this show fails!
I’m with those who did not like the change-up for the second season. The girl-of-the-week idea was good. We’ve had enough moonlighting and other boring sexual tension shows. This show is supposed to be action, action, and more action, with a little bit of hot women thrown in to spice it up further. Ditch the Poochie and Ames and return to the first season format and you will have more viewers.
Human Target is a favorite in our household. We all love it and it is one of the few shows on that we can watch as a family. We bought season one on DVD, enjoyed season two (when we knew when it was on) and would be extremely saddened should the show be cancelled. Tell us a date and a time an we will be loyal viewers of the show – one of the best on air in a long time!
Great show!! Don’t let this one die…
I wish they would continue it. It’s a great show, just on a bad night when no one watches it. I’ve never seen it on TV, but regularly watch it on Hulu. I’m never home when it’s on. I work till 9:30 and don’t get home till after that. Sucks that people like me can’t be counted in the viewers that watch it.
Most enjoyable show on tv. remember, Bonanza became a huge hit, but only when they found the right time slot. It was missing a little humor the first year, but completely made it a fun show by adding the ladies. You have got to give it another shot. Word of mouth, my whole family is watching it. Filmed beautifully, also
If you’ve ever seen a great show on FOX it’s probably been cancelled due to shifting time slots. They bank on brain dead shows like “American Idol” that are insulting the audience as well as the contestants. Whoever is designing the line up at FOX is a genius at making money off of idiot America but a moron in the way of artistic taste.
“Human Target” is one of the few series my husband and I look forward to seeing each week. I just don’t understand why a good show with good writing and acting, with interesting locations and plots, isn’t successful, but dumb shows that appeal to people with a low I.Q. seem to last for years. Maybe “Human Target” needs better TV ads and a permanent day and time it will be shown so people can get accustomed to the schedule.
Human Target involves fast action, fun, enjoyable characters, interesting storylines and intelligent, sometimes tongue-in-cheek dialog. This is great entertainment–and I look forward to it rather than the endless, mindless American Idol, countless reality series, and inane, repetitious sitcoms. But if Fox isn’t willing to leave it somewhere permanent where a more sophisticated audience can count on watching it (rather than pre-empting it), how can anything targeted to an above eight-year-old mentality survive on television, or at least on Fox?
I wish they’d renew it, but return the series to its first reason format. Obviously the changes didn’t bring in any new viewers, in fact they were chased off. I say return the series to what made it so much fun to begin with: high velosity action, the “girl of the week”, Bear McCreary and get rid of Ames and Mrs. Poochie.
If not, then go ahead and cancel it. It’s been ruined anyway.
The best show for a long time, but apparently too surreal for some… Don’t get me wrong but i think this show is targeted at middle aged group and they are the scarcest group.
Anyway AGAIN they canceled the show i was looking too. What a shame…
