Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

I just realized that you aired Human Target last night & I didn’t even know it!!
You expect this series to last when no one is informed of the change! I didn’t even think
to check the TV listings for Friday night! Please air again so us die hards can see it & let
the public know this time!
I understand that these shows are expensive to produce, but rather than try to read the “minds” of the public and scrapping this show, a perfectly enjoyable albeit yet to be discovered gem in a proven genre and replacing it with a gamble on something else, why not go at it from a marketing standpoint with a conviction that there’s nothing wrong with the quality and viability of the product, but merely a failure in selling it properly? That said the changes made for season two in an effort to “save” the show were a mistake which have likely caused… Read more »
The best program on the air!! Have told a number of my friends & they are hooked also. There are few good action packed shows. Have set my DVR to record every week to record this show & was quite disappointed to find I had recorded Obama! By chance I know now that it will be seen tonight but NO THANKS to Fox. Please I beg you, don’t give this quality show the boot! The girls added a new touch. Most of the people I ask if they have seen the show, aren’t aware it is even on. A good… Read more »
Agree w/Elie This WAS one of the best shows on Tv – cant remember a show i was so excited about and made a point of never missing. Serious case of ‘if something works dont fix it’ – looks like they ‘fixed’ it into cancellation. They should keep season one and two and show them back to back in TV production classes in film schools as an example of what not to do, how not to create characters, when less is more, etc, etc. It doesnt matter if they cancel it or not because the show i NEVER missed is… Read more »
As a British guy living in Cyprus. (Thats a country in the Middle East my American friends) I have thoroughly enjoyed Human Target. I also very much enjoyed Boston Legal, and was very sorry to see that series go. Any fans of Mark Valley should download a series he did in the UK called “Keen Eddie” with Sienna Miller. Very very funny. Death to reality shows!!!!!!

This show is great, I would hate to see it go , my favorite show of the week. Entertaining, great action, humor, and beautiful characters. There are too many reality shows, Please keep Human Target on
HT was the best show on television in its first season. And because it was so good Fox decided to throw away the showrunner, writers, music score and add new cast members – instead of spending the money on ramping up some of the production values – the fight scenes were phenomenal and a little special effects money would have been great – they spent it on having to pay off the old crew while bringing in new people and adding new cast people. Now it is not any different from a handful of action dramas – Bones, Closer, even… Read more »
I absolutely love this show and set my DVR to record all episodes. I don’t know who decides which shows get cancelled but please do not let this show be one of them.
HUMAN TARGET is one of our MOST favorite shows!!!!! The cast is great! The action is great! Everything about this show is exciting! PLEASE PLEASE keep this show on Fox! DO NOT CANCEL this amazing show!!!! We are NOT “Idol” fans and would much rather be entertained by Mark Valley and his team as they are THE BEST!!!!! The second season surpassed the first. We began watching on the first season, first episode and immediately loved it. It has only gotten better and better with each episode. As the team has grown to include two more excellent players (Ames and… Read more »
One more great show canceled, one more reason to abandon network TV.
I missed season 1 but dvr every episode this year. It is fun and my replacement for 24 and Prison Break. Like a mini movie in 1 hour.
I like the show …. but I think it’s time to call it a day. The change in showrunners hurt the product. What’s odd is that, the showrunner was from Chuck, so I expected to see the comedic bantering stick around, but it just hasn’t been there. The addition of the women have hurt things, even though I actually like both gals enough, as actresses, and as characters. The mythology has been all but retconned outside of a few points here or there. A significant point, like Guerrero having a son, was basically glossed over. I like the show and… Read more »
Whoever seeded the idea that “Human Target” would be cancelled should be canned themselves—promptly! The show is great—leave it alone; there are a lot of us who appreciate it just fine. If anything should be sent to oblivion, it should be that damn stupid trailer-trash “Idol” so-called “show”—we’ve never bothered with it, not once, ever. Except for that little recent hiccup in the schedule that left some in our household scratching our head and scrambling like mad over some 100 channels very quickly searching for it in vain that one night (turned out some other networks also had the same… Read more »
Season 1 started slow and was more of a mini action Michael Bay movie. Mid-season they picked up some interesting story lines and started off this season great! Each episode is better than the last and the plot lines are great! I hope fox keeps the show and with an idol lead-in, more will watch and follow post-idol. Its a great show and I watch it first from my dvr.
Let’s face facts, when a network bigwig wants to kill a show he/she will. All we can do as fans is complain, hope for the best and if delivered the worst forget the network even exists. Fox seems to hate SF/Fantasy/Action shows but keeps putting them on anyway. If the show isn’t up to par do they try giving it a boost? Nope, they keep shifting it’s timeslot and cut back on advertising so fans can’t find it. We had to go to Fox’s website to find out about tonight’s episodes being on, there were no ads or even rolling… Read more »
I get so tired of the networks canceling the shows i like and then keep the stupid shows. amazing. If they cancel this show they will be losing a viewer.
