Following on the heels of last week’s cancellations of the Happy Hour sitcom and The Rich List game show, FOX has announced that another of its new shows is leaving the air.
Justice debuted on Wednesday, August 30th to high expectations. The network had been showing fast-paced promos of the Victor Garber series all summer long but it still failed to attract big numbers. The highly anticipated premiere was watched by only 8.6 million viewers.
Justice followed a diverse group of lawyers as they worked at a prestigious Los Angeles law firm. Each episode started at the beginning of a trial and followed it through until the verdict. Then viewers were shown, via flashbacks, what actually happened at the time of the crime.
Like many FOX series, Justice took a break during the World Series (after five episodes). When it returned, FOX began airing it on Monday nights, opposite NBC’s popular Heroes and replacing Vanished (which was moved to Friday nights). Three episodes have aired on Monday nights. The most recent episode drew only 4.2 million households, about half of lead-in Prison Break’s audience.
With that in mind, its no surprise that FOX has announced that the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced courtroom drama has been pulled from the schedule effective immediately. The network isn’t calling it a cancellation right now. The FOX website lists that the show will return on December 11th, but the word is that it will not return for very long or at all.
Eight episodes of Justice have aired thus far and production is expected continue on the rest of the 13 episodes of FOX’s order. There is no word as yet if the series or any individual episodes will be released on DVD or online via FOX’s website.
11/17/06 UPDATE: FOX has officially cancelled Vanished and Justice will instead return on Friday, December 1st. No new word on how long it will continue to air.
I just want Fox to know that I’m not happy along with the rest of the people here that ‘Justice’ has been cancelled. Please bring it back and keep it in the same time slot for more than two weeks so people can find it. You can’t get more viewers if you make it hard to find!
I can’t believe this!! I found out through friends that the show I got them hooked on was being X’d. With all the mindless shows to choose from, you would mess over the one that challenged you to think. This show actually was the one show that my 13 year old daughter and I loved together. I told everyone about this show, all of my friends and family members – and everyone that was able to catch the show – agreed with me totally that it was GREAT!!! After trying to figure out what happened to monday night since i… Read more »
I love Justice. It’s exciting, fascinating and brilliantly written. I normally don’t watch Fox, but I have not missed an episode of Justice. Not even when they moved it. Give this show some time- the cast is excellent, writing perfect. I’ve told my friends, but it doesn’t help when you keep moving it. My vote- keep Justice, it’s actually entertaining. I really can’t take another Law & order rerun.
Bring the damn show back! I loved it and so did everyone in my house. Justice was one of Fox’s best shows.
I can’t believe Fox is doing this. Justice is one of the few shows I make a point of never missing. I don’t know why I am even bothering to say anything, it won’t make any difference. But I really don’t know what is wrong with some of the decision makers for good entertaining shows.
I hope enough people complain and hopefully Justice with get a reprieve. But That is very doubtful. That is why I hate watching new shows. I really enjoy them and then they get canceled.
Fox, I applaud your keeping “Justice” at least for awhile. I’m disappointed that “Vanished” didn’t get a fair shake, but thank you for at least getting the fans to a conclusion. “Invasion” fans didn’t get that chance. Why do networks think that the only fans worth listening to are the mind-numbed reality show watchers? I’ve had all I can take of worm-eaters, racers, spouse-traders, etc. Please keep some brain food on your network!
Justice is a brilliantly done show. By a brilliant director Jerry Bruckheimer. This is shocking because it is the 2nd best show on fox.
When Fox finally produced a classy mature drama, they apparently thought not enough teens were watching or could understand it, so they cancelled it. Sorry, Fox, cancelling JUSTICE was another bonehead programming error. You just sent that audience back to Law and Order reruns.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? i never watch fox and yet i always look for this show. it’s GREAT! THEY DON’T EVEN GIVE US A CHANCE TO FIND IT WHEN THEY MOVE IT BEFORE THEY DECIDE RATINGS AREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. give it a chance to find it’s audience FOX!!!!
i was talking to my husband today about vanished.asking when the show was coming back then read that fox is canceling the show what is wrong with you. i agree with the other viewers about keeping the other shows on like prison break number and so on these shows are stupid and retarded. fox you need to look at your ratings because you keep canceling the wrong shows why your network suck and it is going to stay like that until u realize what the audience wants and what keeps fox on top.
We looked and looked and waited and waited for Justice and Vanished to come back on, only to find that the shows had been cancelled. How very disappointing!!!
You keep shows like Shark, Prison Break, and Lost on T.V. which are actually quite retarded and you take a show off the air that has great potential and is actually a fantastic show. WHY???!!!!
I, too, was disapointed that “Justice” was cancelled. Then I find out that it is re-appearing on Friday Nights. Tell everyone you know (who enjoys great TV) to watch it. Hopefully, FOX can keep airing it on the same night at the same time now. I believe this is the 3rd time that “Justice” has changed days. If FOX cancels it, hopefully another network will pick it up. It is “can’t miss tv”. I only watch 4 shows passionately…”Criminal Minds”, “The Unit”, “Numbers”, and “Justice”; and if you ask me, “Justice” blows the others out of the water. KEEP “JUSTICE”… Read more »
Changing the nights after a long break due to the World Series was simply the problem. It seems simple, but I guarantee people had hard time finding it. Some people specifically watch TV at a particular showtime, but do not watch TV otherwise. Because of this…they would not see new air time…hence missing the show all together. Now the ratings drop. FOX should simply pick a time and stick with it. This show was fantastic, full of suspense and the ending was simply phenominal. I really hope that the show sticks when it comes back on. FOX needs this show!
I can’t believe you guys cancelled “Justice” that show was excellent.PLEASE PUT IT BACK ON AIR!!!!!!!!
My sweetie and I would get in bed and watch Justice. It was very special time spent especially with nothing else worth watching, we looked forward to the show. I really hope this and all the comments are being read by people who could bring Justice back. I am not the only person who has expressed that the show has allowed me to spend quality time with a loved one. That’s what a good show does. We still watched it when it was moved to Monday nights and got a gut wrenching feeling that it wouldn’t be long before talks… Read more »
