Would you like to see a remake of your favorite TV show? Recently, executive producers Norman Lear and Brent Miller spoke with Deadline about their upcoming ABC special, Live in Front of a Studio Audience.
The special will feature live recreations of All in the Family and The Jeffersons featuring a celebrity cast that includes Wanda Sykes, Anthony Anderson, Ike Barinholtz, Ellie Kemper, Jovan Adepo and Woody Harrelson.
In the interview, Miller revealed there are plans to remake more episodes of classic TV shows for ABC:
I agree with you. I think it is, and perhaps that’s what we’ll hear from the network. You know, the reason we chose the title Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons is because we hope to establish a brand here or a franchise and do this again with various classics from TV history.”
Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons debuts on ABC tonight, May 22nd at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by a Nightline special at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.

What do you think? Are you a fan of classic sitcoms? Which would you like to see ABC remake?
Finally something worth watching! All we see nowadays is tv shows with crimes; no good clean entertainment! Hope to see more episodes of LIVE FROM A STUDIO AUDIENCE
I can’t believe people would actually watch this junk. If you want real comedy ABC, bring back THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT & forget about this awful stuff.
If you want to watch the old shows, watch them, but forget the remakes, they’re not the same.
I loved All in the family and the Jeffersons live in front of a studio audience. I would like to to see the Brady Bunch next ☺️
Yes I thought it was great. Keep them coming
WKRP. HOGANS HEROES.
No, I don’t think they should continue “remaking” old classic TV shows. It failed miserably with PSYCHO; and, with the exception of Marla Gibbs reprising her role (instead of someone horribly trying to imitate the original actor, as in the case of Woody Harrelson’s Archie Bunker); and it failed here. It was watched out of curiosity by people of a certain age; and, I think we have learned our lesson. You want the classics? Watch the classics. But leave them alone and respect them for what made them classics. Maybe try and make new classics, instead of the drivel that… Read more »
I agree with you 100%.
Brian, I agree with you… and Shannon!
PLEASE NO MORE REMAKES OF THE CLASSICS, All IN THE FAMILY was horrible mainly because noone, but, noone, can ever touch Carroll O’Conner and Jean Stapleton as Archie and Edith Bunker, so why even try, the actor who played Mike though was the only good one, he did remind me of Rob Reiner, other than him, the cast was less than stellar, imo, as for the Jeffersons, that was better, although Jamie Foxx was trying to do an imitation of Sherman Helmsley and instead of recreating episodes from 50 years ago, why not make a contemporary version, especially of All… Read more »
Mike, they can’t make contemporary versions of anything…. because SOMEONE will always be offended… you know, that idiotic POLITICALLY CORRECT crap!
I think M*A*S*H would be interesting
they could do one episode from the start of the series with Trapper John,Frank Burns and Henry Blake and an episode further on with BJ Hunnicutt, Charles Winchester and Sherman Potter.
I could see a version with Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley.
