Lone Star: FOX TV Show Cancelled After Two Episodes

by Trevor Kimball, September 28, 2010

Lone StarWe all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.

Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.

The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.

Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.

Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.

Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.

What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?

UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

Yea, I’m really disappointed it was cancelled. I don’t think it was given a fair chance to develop an audience. I know I’m not the only one who is fed up with investing my time in a new series only to have the series unceremoniously vanish. Maybe there should be a “TV Watchers Bill of Rights.” Rule # 1: Whether a show is cancelled at episode 2 or 102, there has to be a final wrap up episode. We deserve closure!

Loved “Lone Star” and Jon Voight! David Keith’s character was particularly compelling. I could not believe it was cancelled. I agree with a previous post that it was so much better than “The Event”. I watched two episodes of that and lost interest. I was highly anticipating the next installment of Lone Star. What a shame. I do agree that being up against Dancing With The Stars didn’t help, a show I do not watch any longer since I’ve grown tired of it. Please bring back Lone Star!

My wife and I really enjoyed this show…..We are sorry that it got cancelled. Think FOX might try a different time slot…..going to miss this show. HBO should pick the series up, and show FOX how to run things.

loved the movie; too bad it got cut; I thought the lead character showed a promising realistic role playing 2 parts; good guy/bad guy; he reminded me of a young george clooney; he had the same mannerisms; too bad, I liked the show

My fiancee and I are infuriated this show has been cancelled! It is original, action packed, always keeps us guessing, and actually is surprisingly realistic. It had sex, good looking, well acting actors and actresses on top of a great plot.Apparently an island full of rich morons or a show about cops and doctors is what our wonderful country loves.I work in a factory with 400 people and after the first episode the place was buzzing over Lone Star.Is 2 episodes really enough to make such an ubrupt decision?

I liked Lonestar. I think it was not given a fair chance. The week of Sept 20, 2010 had a lot of new and returning shows. I wanted to watch all of them. I ended up watching Chase on that Mon night because I saw that Lonestar would be aired again on Sat. No conflict.
I hope Fox will consider releasing Lonestar again in the off season. It was too good to be scrapped after only 2 episodes.

So upset this show was canceled!!! >:0 It was such a mistake to take this show away from viewers. It was the 1st show that actually wasn’t about cops, murders, or lawyers in so long!

It’s not fair I really really liked the show and it was just getting good! Why did Fox have to go and cancel it 🙁 Not cool at all!!! I would rather watch Lone star than Lie to me; lie to me is good show too, but its not as good as lone star. Plus any show with a guy as Hot as James Wolk doesn’t deserve to be canceled. It’s just not fair!

What a shame, a show that was really different, guess if it’s not about cops, lawyers, or doctors, a show is doomed…..too bad FOX execs can’t see how bored we all are becoming with the same type of show all the time, every season!
