The end is in sight for Syfy‘s Lost Girl series. The upcoming fifth season will be the show’s last. Star Anna Silk announced the news to fans via Twitter and YouTube.
Silk told EW that, “Honestly, I thought we might get one more, but I knew that this could be the last season… It’s time, in a way. In terms of the story, I think we could have done another. But I’m happy that we’re saying goodbye in a particularly strong season, and I’m pleased that we’re gonna go out with a bang.”
On the positive side, the producers of Lost Girl learned that the series wasn’t being renewed for a sixth season early enough so that they could make a true series finale.
Here’s the video announcement:
There are 16 episodes in season five and the first eight will air in Canada starting December 7th. Syfy has yet to announce an airdate — or to officially announce that they will air the fifth season. It’s almost guaranteed that they will, it’s just a question of when.
Here’s the press release about the series ending from Showcase in Canada:
SHOWCASE ANNOUNCES THE EPIC FINAL SEASON OF LOST GIRL
TORONTO, August 25, 2014 – Today, Showcase revealed that the previously announced fifth season of Lost Girl will wrap up the fan-favourite series. In a message to the show’s loyal “Fae”-natics, Lost Girl star Anna Silk revealed that Showcase supersized the original 13-episode order to 16 final episodes bringing the series to a thrilling conclusion. The season is split into two heart-stopping parts, with the first eight episodes airing Sundays at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase, beginning December 7.
“The massive popularity of Lost Girl is a testament to the inventive and hard-working team at Prodigy Pictures, the magnetic and talented cast and the most devoted and passionate fan base in Canadian television,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media. “We’re so proud that Showcase has been the home to this landmark series and we look forward to sharing these final 16 episodes with the show’s fans.”
“It’s been an absolute honour playing Bo, and I’m looking forward to seeing where her personal journey leads her this season,” said Lost Girl star Anna Silk.
“Lost Girl has been an incredible ride. We’re so proud to have delivered a show with the groundbreaking message that you can live the life you choose,” said Executive Producer Jay Firestone.
Lost Girl follows supernatural seductress Bo (Silk), a tough yet loveable Succubus who feeds off sexual energy. Since realizing she is part of the Fae, creatures of legend and folklore who live among humans, Bo has resisted choosing an allegiance to either the Dark or Light Fae clans. Instead, she has forged her own path between the human and Fae worlds, while embarking on a mission to unlock the secrets of her origin.
In the blow-out final season, Bo goes to hell and back to try to save the people she loves, triggering an explosive chain of events that play out over the exhilarating final episodes.
Lost Girl was developed by Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media and Showcase. Executive Producers are Jay Firestone, Vanessa Piazza and Michael Grassi.
Lost Girl is produced with the participation of the Canadian Media Fund created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry, and with the assistance of the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit Program.
What do you think? Do you like the Lost Girl series? Is it time to end the show or should it have been renewed for a sixth season?
Should renew for 6th season I love it!!!
Find every petition to renew Lost Girl online and sign them. We need to do more than hope. We need to let the producers et al know that we will fight to keep the show going. And yes, they (SyFy, at least) have never promoted the show like they should nor have they made it easy to discover the scheduling for those of us who follow and love it! The show has fans around the world, so let us unite to let the powers that be remember that. Where’s a Mesmer when you need one?
Never understood ‘it’s popularity-. . . Being Human was a much better show… but I guess chicks macking on each other doubles the audience….men sit and watch with their women because it caters to them and the bi/lesbian community are being satisfied plus the 18-30 generations are satiated ….again it’s the sex I guess that kept people tuned …. but it wasn’t a great show so I really don’t know how it lasted …try True Blood if you want sex and storytelling …and if it was SO incredibly good then why did they screw with the shows placement consistently over… Read more »
This is so tragic to me, it’s been years since I watched a show this good and if anything, Showcase should be pushing for better promo’s for the show since it took me a long time to even stumble upon it, this show is brilliant and the chemistry of the characters and the dynamic of everything just fits so beautifully. I’ll be totally crushed if they really end the show, I know it’s a little “late” but stranger things have happened, I just can’t believe they’d really cancel this show.
I found this show within the past year on netflix & was immediately drawn in. Now it’s my favorite and i’m so not ready for it to end. I love the dynamics of the characters and the plots. Sad to see this happen, if there is any way to bring it back that would be amazing. I’m gonna believe there might still be hope
I only just discovered this show through my library. I wish more media coverage on the show was put out there. This feels like Star Trek, firefly and a list of other shows that stopped to short. A job well done to everyone involved. It was a well written show a wonderfully filmed show. And the cast were all Fae, had to be they way they brought the characters to life and melded. And made me love each and everyone. Congrats to you all. And I hope to see more shows like this in my future.
Typical network bull ****. Great show.
One more season with a good finale come bring it back the lost girl
Please keep Lost Girls on syfy
I’ve been a lost girl fan since the beginning; although, I’m glad it will be ending on a strong note I am sad that it is being cancelled. This was an incredible show with great characters and very strong story lines I will miss it greatly and only hope that the actors thrive past this show and continue onto larger things because they are awesome! If there is a petition to bring it back I will gladly sign! P.S. much better then True Blood!
I want number 6…it’s not rite to end it like this I’m very unhappy with this news…
How do we start a campaign to save Lost Girl for another season? Other TV shows have shown strong enough fan bases with a desire for their shows reinstated after cancellation, so why can’t we get enough support and show Prodigy or Showcase how serious we are. I have no experience with the social media that drives these things, so if there is anyone out there who knows how to get this started, please try. Thank you.
Keep for another season! Please, it’s an awesome show. I’ve even got my husband watching it.
I have, Lost G!!irl since the beginning. Her loves, her friendships, awesome/beautiful sex scenes. Tk you Bo. I shall miss you and the group fiercely.
I have watched Lost Girl since the very beginning. I never really watched Syfy until Warehouse 13 and Lost Girl. The friendships that evolved, no matter who you were or where you evolved, the Light & Darkness in all of us, etc. This has been an awesome show. I shall miss it and all the characters fiercely. So disappointing 2 have it end.
no way I didn’t see that coming everyone I know watches this show. I love this show. Please renew it. Give it one more try. omg I love all the characters and the cool situations they have to over come. And the human part of it. I’m not ready to watch only reruns of this show. Please put it back on it is alot better then alot of the shows you have on syfy .. get rid of one of them. To many people watch this show. This happens to every show I like.
I so agree with you Kia. I also wish in our area of washington state, that i would get even reruns but we don’t. they have so much junk on syfy it is irritating. i wish the producers of this show would change their minds and renew this program. It seems that all the really good programs get canceled and the junk stays.
I love the show and I am sorry to see it go. Bo has this magnetic energy it’s almost like watching her and everything she goes through and the fact that she never gives up. I bet just that alone gives young girls something to look up to.
