A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Love the show! One of the few good shows on TV. I love to see how the characters are evolving.
Please don’t cancel
I think it’s great funny gripping and the actors are all so good. Lucifer nail’s it when one episode finish I can’t wait for the next one I hope it gets another series I love it!!!
Keep it!!! Really enjoy watching!!
keep it.!!! this show can grow.!! hey writers dont take it for granted, use the supernatural world more.!!!!
Keep it! It’s light, entertaining, and different than all the rest. I love it. Tom Ellis is really charismatic (in everything he’s in) and this is a good show. Give it a chance with another season! It’s just getting REALLY GOOD! I love the premise of the show!
Lucifer is one of the few shows still worth watching on broadcast TV!
Great show. Give it a chance. Tom Ellis Is great as Lucifer.
Keep it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like the show so far. It’s entertaining and intriguing. Tv shows, especially the good ones, get canceled way to quickly. Just because it didn’t get amazing ratings the first couple of weeks doesn’t mean it’s not a good show, it’s just growing. I just hate watching tv nowadays because when I like something it ends up being cancelled. I just really hope the producers aren’t like everyone else and cancel and instead give the show a try.
It’s not the best, but it is one of the better new shows, so I vote to give it some more time to develop!
Give it a chance. I like it. Things are cancelled so quickly these days. Don’t just throw in the towel. The actor is great and it is something new, A little comedy, and a little craziness. Not to mention that accent!
Keep it!!! Best new show on tv. Tom Ellis is killin’ it. Great supporting cast. Writing is tight, –funny and philosophical at the same time.
The look in Lucifer’s eyes sitting in front of the bloody stumps of his wings was the most haunting thing I’ve seen in any television show in years. Yes, this show has some low moments, but at its best, it’s inspired. By all means, keep it and see what it can become.
Please don’t cancel the show, my daughter and I love the show, it’s hilarious, there’s nothing wrong with poking a little fun at Religion, we are far too serious about too many things. The idea behind this is fabulous, concept and story line fantastic!!
