Last year, Magnum PI wasn’t a big hit on Monday nights. CBS renewed the series for a second season but moved it to Fridays where ratings expectations are lower (particulalry in the 18-49 demo). Will this be a good move for Thomas and company or, will it spell the end of the show? Will Magnum PI be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. Status Update Below.
An action-drama series, Magnum PI stars Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang, and Amy Hill. This reboot of the 1980s TV show follows Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), a decorated former Navy SEAL who repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. He lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business. The “majordomo” of the property is Juliet Higgins (Weeks), a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent who keeps Magnum in line. When Magnum needs back-up on a job, he turns to his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors, chopper pilot Theodore “TC” Calvin (Hill) and Orville “Rick” Wright (Knighton), a former Marine door-gunner who now runs a nightclub. Magnum frequently has run-ins with police detective Gordon Katsumoto (Kang) and the two are more alike than either cares to admit. Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta (Hill) is one of Magnum’s biggest fans and is also the unofficial “House Mom” and cultural curator of Robin’s Nest.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/9 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: Season one of Magnum PI on CBS averaged a 0.89 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.99 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Magnum PI TV series on CBS? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
5/6 update: Magnum PI has been renewed for a third season.
CBS would get better ratings airing reruns of the REAL Magnum PI episodes with the REAL Magnum, Tom Selleck.
We love the show! We hate the loud, obnoxious noise.
Magnum PI has a great following of women. In our opinion we love the remake. But it seem when we find a show we all enjoy somehow it gets screwed up I sincerely hope they do not do it this time.
I love the new MagnumPI. Love the characters.
Renew Magnum Pi — ove it away from Friday
Just heard CBS to put McGuiver on Friday before Hawaii 5-0 so Magnum PI benched for rest of season.
McGuiver is no good
Magnum P.I. is Great!!!! Should be renewed and moved to Thursday night!!!!
Go Magnum!!!!!!
Another great show just better than swat but both shows are really good
Absolutely! Of course every great tv series I like get canceled though…. I’ve never seen/heard a better 2.0 character that not only sounds like the original but phrases things exactly the same …. the stories are great . What’s not to love ? Viewing Hawaii and Ferrari’s!? Please CBS RENEW!
Renew one of my favorite shows
The new Magnum PI is very well written. The best drama series on tv. Look forward every Friday to watch it, please give us season3
I enjoy the show very much. I would hate to see it canceled. I think the remake is better than the original.
Not a good show at all. There is only one Magnum, Tom Selleck, there is only one Higgins John Hillerman end of !
The ratings are so bad they had to move it to Friday to try an salvage a second season! Expect this to be gone soon.
As a hard core fan of the original series I was very disappointed when the show was rebooted and the pilot did not let me down, it was brutal with none of the soul and character that made it’s namesake so successful. I was surprised it was renewed but going by the ratings this season I don’t see another renewal. In 5 years MiniMag and Shiggins be trivia questions and everyone will remember, rightly so, the 80s classic only.
So, a 0.8 in the 18-49 demographic is typically on the bubble, and this is just over half that? I don’t think its ratings are going to get it a 3rd season unless it somehow gets a massive boost.
Problem is they need that one dynamite show and there are some great things they can show. Let me give you an example. Play a game include everyone, chase through areas that ends game turns deadly. Only everyone finds they been used to find what was missing. The game has a killer involved out for revenge and who howe has targeted is not only his subject but several of the other players.
Just doesn’t seem as good as season 1 so far. New writers?
