TV show description:
This TV series is a continuation of The Closer, following the departure of Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick).
The detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division are still reeling from Brenda’s leaving and this creates a tough transition for the newly appointed head of the division, Captain Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell).
Unlike their previous chief, Raydor is determined to lead the department with a rule-based, more team-oriented approach, sharing the credit with the people with whom she works. Raydor’s hardest job, however, will be gaining the full trust and confidence of her detectives, who aren’t quick to forget her long history of internal investigations targeting them and their previous boss.
Especially troublesome is Lieutenant Louie Provenza (G. W. Bailey), the squad’s resident old-timer. He still has a few tricks up his sleeve and has a difficult time taking orders from someone he doesn’t think knows as much as he does. He also likes to bend the rules to avoid doing too much work. Lieutenant Andy Flynn (Tony Denison) is passionate about his job but sometimes lets his friendship with Provenza get in the way. He always has a wise crack to keep the squad lifted, even in stressful situations.
Lieutenant Mike Tao (Michael Paul Chan) is the go-to guy for anything technology related. He thrives on using his expertise to crack cases; the more complex, the better. But he also tends to go overboard on details when explaining things. Detective Julio Sanchez (Raymond Cruz) is knowledgeable about the complications of gang warfare in Los Angeles and can be a bit intimidating to a suspect. Even when his emotions run high, Sanchez knows how far he can push without crossing the line.
A Civilian Surveillance Coordinator, Buzz Watson (Phillip P. Keene) is the electronics room technician. In addition, he is the videographer of all crime-scene documentation for the Major Crimes Division. The outdated equipment provided by the LAPD causes Buzz constant frustration, but his instruments often prove useful in cracking a case.
Assistant Chief of Operations Russell Taylor (Robert Gossett) helps the Major Crimes Division on numerous cases. He frequently acts as a press liaison and has proven to be a strong ally for closing cases. Doctor Morales (Jonathan del Arco) is the Medical Examiner for the LA County Coroner’s office.
FBI Special Agent Fritz Howard (Jon Tenney) is Brenda’s husband and works as the main liaison between Major Crimes and the FBI.
A newcomer to the Major Crimes division, Detective Amy Sykes (Kearran Giovanni) is an ambitious undercover police detective and military veteran who served in Afghanistan. She struggles to prove herself and be taken seriously.
Rusty Beck (Graham Patrick Martin) is a homeless juvenile who ends up living with Raydor after becoming a witness in an important homicide case. His troubled past shapes his unruly character and that doesn’t make Raydor’s transition any easier.
Episode 105 — By Any Means, Part 4
Lt. Tao, (Michael Paul Chan) is stuck in a room with a potential bomb. Provenza (G.W. Bailey) finally identifies the real Ms. Bechtal, and Major Crimes comes face-to-face for the very last time with Phillip Stroh (Billy Burke).
First aired: January 16, 2018
What do you think? Do you like this spin-off TV series? Is it as good as The Closer? Do you think there should be a seventh season?
I think this show is great just the way it is. Very entertaining.
The Rusty story line is boring….
Don’t make Julio’s character someone who needs anger management…!
Please get back to fighting crime and new story lines for each show…
I would like to continue watching Major Crimes.
I like the character development when it happens and it is nice to know a back story instead of flat cartoon people.
I have been waiting patiently but! no news? As for the whiners there are plenty of other shows for them to watch. There is always the button that turns thing off.
I am sick of Rusty, who cares about all his whining — he adds nothing to the show and there is just so much time wasted on scenes between him and Captain Raybore. I miss Chief Pope and Brenda, but i keep watching because of the four central Detectives.
I am waiting to see if the show gets back to solving crimes, but from what i hear, it’s not. Very Sad.
I think major crimes is one of the better crime series on television. Keep it going.
We used to enjoy watching Major Crimes and thought it was a good show until recently with the Gay agenda stuff going on now. We along with many millions of others think that being a homosexual is a sin against nature. We know that there are gay people in this society but now your show is acting like it is a normal way of life for Rusty being supposedly 17 or 18 years old and promoting him being gay. We watched Closer continually and also Major Crimes up until now. We will not continue to support the producers storyline and… Read more »
LLoyd’s previous comments have validity. I personally have no problem with gays but don’t want to watch it nor sponsored on a once decent tv series. AND NOW Flynn is dating Raydor. AND NOW Provenza is dating an Afro-American. Come on! Give us a break. Have you no respect for the viewing public?
Save the series and return to a normal mature crime series which will thrive due to it’s primary cast. Your revised script is terrible.
Amen, Lloyd.
Major Crimes is excellent. However, in spite of Mr. Martin being an excellent actor, the role of Rusty simply doesn’t belong in this show. If one wanted to watch a soap opera, they would.
The writers have to reevaluate their goals, purpose and direction of their script. I personally would prefer it to be a “crime” series.
My wife and I enjoy this show throughly and we are happy to see it will continue, the addition to the crime senario is the continuation of Sharon and Rusty’s story keeps it interesting.
I loved The Closer and I love Major Crimes. Rusty’s story can be uncomfortable for some folks to watch – loads of folks have similar issues (abuse, dysfunction – all that stuff). I enjoy the interplay of the characters and character of Rador is well acted as are all the characters. Keep them all.
I love this show, but I do not tolerate Rusty. I wish he would just move on.
Please don’t cancel this show. I love it. As far as Rusty being gay, I have a distant cousin that’s gay. Doesn’t bother me a bit.
Don’t give a flying (you know what) if Rusty is gay-He can’t act! His is a one dimensional character.
I’ve been a long time fan, since it’s spin off from the Closer, but last nights show make me SICK!!! The part about Rusty saying he is gay!!! YUK! Come on writers, get back on course and write it as it is called, Major Crimes, get back to the basics, let it be what it started out being, a show where the cops solve the crimes and the bad guys/gals get put away!!! So many of the cast we love from the Closer, and it was there we learned why Rusty did what he had to do to survive because… Read more »
Both “The Closer” and “Major Crimes” have never shied away from the gay element since their inception. In fact, the first episode of “The Closer” revolved around a lesbian victim that lived as a man. So your comment to the writers to “get back on course” is a bit misguided here. If anything, by virtue of your argument, they never went off course in the first place. That being said, I think introducing a young, gay character that is struggling with his sexuality and with being accepted by others is a wonderful angle for the show to pursue. It may… Read more »
Have to agree with Pookie–I am sick of Rusty and his storyline. I don’t care if he is gay or not–he is boring–the whole Rusty angle adds nothing to the show. It is a Major Crime that The Closer ended.
I LOVE this show. I’m from the UK and think it’s brilliant as The Closer before it. Keep renewing it. 😀
Major Crimes is doing very well and starts S3 on June 9th.
This is one of the flagship shows along with Rizzoli and Isles for TNT and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon!
As for Raydor, Mary McDonnell is one of the best actresses on TV today. She has been nominated for numerous awards, including 2 Oscars!! That speaks volumes for her abilities!
And she looks amazing for being 62, wrinkles and all!! (which she wouldn’t have if she used botox!
The ensemble cast of this show is amazing and with MM at the helm just keeps getting better!!!!
Thank goodness this show is on its way out. Couldn’t stand much more of sour faced over-botoxed Rador, but love all the others. Bring Brenda back and lets have one of the best shows on Telly again.
