BET reportedly wanted the cast of the Being Mary Jane TV show to film season four and season five back-to-back (presumably to save on production costs). However, Gabrielle Union had it in her contract that there would be a significant break between seasons. That lawsuit was ultimately settled but there’s been no word on if Being Mary Jane has or will be renewed for season five. Will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
Being Mary Jane revolves around the life of a successful TV news anchor from Atlanta, Mary Jane Paul (Gabrielle Union). In season four, when Kara (Lisa Vidal) helps her land a gig as a correspondent on a national morning news show in NYC, Mary Jane makes the move to achieve her lifetime career goal of becoming a national lead anchor. The rest of the BET cast includes Margaret Avery, Aaron D. Spears, Richard Brooks, BJ Britt Jr., Raven Goodwin, Richard Roundtree, Valarie Pettiford, Chike Okonkwo, and Michael Ealy.

RENEW! I am a white male in his 50’s – NOT your average demo for this show – but it transcends demographics due to the excellent writing, fine performances, great direction and high production standards. It most DEFINITELY deserves a fifth season and a wider audience. Why isn’t it promoted more widely?! I guarantee if more people knew about it, the ratings would be much higher.
