Earlier this season, NBC tried reviving the variety show format (sort of) with Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris. The show did okay in the ratings but the network cancelled it. Now, they’re trying another live variety show with Maya & Marty. Will this one do better in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Executive produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, Maya & Marty is a live television variety show that features SNL veterans Maya Rudolph and Martin Short in various comedy sketches and musical numbers. Celebrity guests take part in both live and recorded segments.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. I loved Maya & Marty. Its the 1st show in over 20 yrs that I watched with commercials. And l rarely watch TV. I’m sorry that it wasn’t renewed.
I love the show! It should be renewed as my family and I believe they can redo a few scenes from the classic I love Lucy. Since I love Martin dressed as Jack Frost I can a funny comedy with that. Come on use that comedy imagination you have.

Please renew this show! It was a breath of (hilarious) fresh air…like going back to the variety shows of the 70’s and combining it with the very best of SNL. We loved it! Please NBC, give it a chance to take off before you bury it. Besides, how expensive can it be to produce?
