Is the curtain closing on Maya & Marty? In a recent interview, Maya Rudolph and Martin Short said they hope their NBC variety show will continue, reports The Seattle Times.
The series featured Maya Rudolph and Martin Short in various comedy sketches and musical numbers alongside celebrity guests. The first season ended on July 12th.
In the interview, Short said he and Rudolph were discussing new ideas after the show wrapped its first season:
After it wrapped, Maya and I were still discussing new ideas: ‘Wouldn’t it be great if …?’ ‘Yeah, we gotta remember that!’”
Rudolph added that she doesn’t think the show is “over”:
I could perform with Marty for the rest of my life. I don’t feel like it’s over.”
Ratings for the first season of Maya & Marty were decent for a summer series. The variety show earned an average of 1.17 in the 18-49 demo and 4.759 million viewers. NBC has not yet announced whether Maya & Marty is cancelled or renewed.

Definately bring it back! Really enjoyed this show. I watched Martin Short’s jiminy glick character prior to this and loved watching him bring this character alive again. Maya was also a fabulous co star and very funny.

Oh, please bring back the Maya and Marty Variety show!!! It is the bomb!!! There is no other variety show out there! These 2 are hysterical comedians, in their own right, and together ….THEY ARE JUST PURE GENIUS!!!! We absolutely LOVE the show!!! We sure do miss it…My question is, “When is the Maya and Marty Variety Show” returning??? I want to be ready and not miss an episode!!! My hats off to anyone connected with this show!!! I loved Maya & Marty on NBC. It’s the 1st refreshing show in 20 years. It better than ANY reality show. Maya&Marty= 5 stars, reality shows= 0 stars. I’m sorry that the show wasn’t renewed.
