ABC surprised more than a few people when the network renewed Men in Trees for a second season. Great, but where did it go?
Marin Frist (Anne Heche) is a best-selling author and relationship coach who helps women find the right man, using her own life as an example. On a plane trip to attend an Alaska conference, she finds out that her finance has been cheating on her and realizes that she doesn’t know as much as she thought she did. Marin decides to stay in the remote town (where the ratio of men to women is 10 to one) so that she can truly learn how to find and keep a good man, and write a new book. The cast also features Abraham Benrubi, Emily Bergl, Seana Kofoed, Suleka Mathew, Derek Richardson, Sarah Strange, Cynthia Stevenson, Lauren Tom, James Tupper, and John Amos.
Men in Trees debuted on September 12, 2006 on ABC. Trees followed the Fall debut of Dancing with the Stars and attracted over 12.1 million viewers. The second episode lost a third of the audience and attracted just over eight million in its regular timeslot. Despite a season of ratings ups and downs, ABC renewed Men in Trees for a second year on March 21st.
Men in Trees has been off the air however since March 8th. ABC pulled the series to make room for the debut of October Road. Trees was originally scheduled to return on April 12th but ABC has reworked its schedule more than once, delaying the return each time.
ABC has now announced that Trees fans will have to wait a whole longer to see new episodes — probably five months. The remaining five episodes of season one will now be part of Trees’ second season, bringing the sophomore year episode total to 27.
Though frustrating and unusual, this isn’t unprecedented. Grey’s Anatomy and Boston Legal both had 27 episode sophomore years. There have been rumors that ABC may change their mind and decide to air the rest this season. We’ll keep you posted so stay tuned!
My sentiments are reflected in all the comments above. I am not a big TV watcher but this program I find enjoyable in every way. I am feeling the same frustration I felt when you ended up dropping Commander in Chief last year after switching around the date, time etc. 12 million plus people are waiting for this wonderful program to return. We certainly don’t end up feeling valued. Please rethink what you are doing with your programming. It certainly doesn’t make sense to most intelligent people that I know. My friends and I clearly believe that MIT is one… Read more »
Who would make a judgement call to cancel a great show. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Obviously you are not. Put MIT back on. Y’all make me real tired of watching TV. My intelligence is insulted with half of the garbage that is kept on year after year. Yes, I do have a choice to watch or not. That is why God gave me an index finger to shut it off. Which I do quite regularly.
I too anxiously await the day that “Men in Trees” returns. I too do a Thursday night of TV and with that gone, things are just not right. We love “Men in Trees.”
I miss “Men in Trees;” please bring it back soon.
Please bring it back!!!! All the above entries are my sentiments exactly!!
Pleaseeeee bring MIT back for May sweeps!! If ABC knows that fans want the show back then they need to put the last 5 episodes on before summer begins. MIT and Lost are my 2 favorite shows.
My husband I have been wondering what happened to this interesting and enjoyable show. I finally went to the internet tonight to see if I could find out what happened to it. I can’t imagine such a successful show would be delayed to open a spot for another show. Men in Trees has the viewers always wondering what was going to happen next. We loved to watch it. Also were fans of Northern Exposure.
There’s nothing else on primetime like it! Let’s get on with it shall we?
Soon.
SO looking forward to seeing men in trees return!! Bring it back soon, please.
Ditto to all that’s been said so far! Bring it back – it’s been missed!
October Road STINKS, as does most tv this month! Bring back Men in Trees!!!
PLease please bring back Men in Trees–it was great and there are not that many shows on i consider GREAT–
I just want to express how disappointed that another week goes by and no MIT’s.
The show has great writing, scenery, characters, actors. Its different and refreshing.
Please don’t postpone the final 5 episodes until next fall.Bring it back now. I see ads for the finale of October Road so please bring it back after this “ho hum” show’s finale. Men in Trees is the best.
Get it together ABC and quit playing around with a winner. In today’s TV market ABC is lucky to have a new show that has a strong fan base.”Just do it”.
Please bring back Men in Trees. I really miss it. I thought it was such a good show, one of my favorites. I don’t watch anything in its place.
OMG, finally found a website to say my peace about MIT..ABC as usual is srewing around with another great show. MIT was a hit on Fridays and now on Thursday nights after Grey’s Anatomy, what more can you ask for!!!!We want Men In Trees back!! I hope ABC is listening.
