At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

loved it nough said. nbc has been canceling a lot of great shows that many people and myself like a lot
This is crazy one of the best shows I have seen in a long time right along with tv show Trauma. There nothing but junk nowadays on tv, oh let me guess because its not a reality show give me a break!!!. I’m truly heart broken because these shows seem to have realism at heart please bring them back ……
WTF!! Again, so typical for shows people get invested in, always get pulled and leave ya hanging! I LOVED this show and you begin to relate to the characters and then gone, your left hanging. Can we put a show on and actually let it run a season?!?!?!? I want to know how things ended, at least give us that before you pull a show. This sucks! Bring it back or at least put the remainder of the episodes out there for people to view!
we need to know what happens can not just leave it like it is we need to know did he die or what.
Mercy was a great show! The only primetime show I looked forward to watching. Bring it back, please 🙂
This show was amazing! Put it back on!
Man. I just finished watching the entire first season on netflix only to find out that they cancelled the show?! What! I was so excited to see what happened, and now- nothing. Boo that. I loved this show. It would be great if they decided to give it a second chance, especially now that I really want to watch more of it!
I work in the heath care field and yes that’s not always how it goes but the
Drama around it is just like every day stuff.. I absolutely loved this show and wish there could be a season two. To be honest you kinda left us hanging!!!
It needed a spin to set it apart form other ER shows… If it had a “24 hr.” hyper to it and less of a soap feel, it would have done better. …More action, more attitude, keep the pace fast cutting from subject to subject… But I did enjoy it. Too bad!
yyyyyyyy i love the show mercy everytime i find a great show it is cancelled. Whatever screw NBC…………………… please put it back on the air
i agree jennifer! i loved that show! 🙁 im really hoping they put it back on the air!
This show was an insult to anyone involved in healthcare.
I am with probably every other person that watched the show, bad ending. If you were to put a season two on I bet that it would have better ratings. it just needs a chance. the problem with it is the hospital looked grungy. Please re think this we need a season 2
