At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I Love this show and never missed an episode!!! Please bring it back!
So upset Mercy was cancelled. It was so good. What is NBC thinking??
Please bring Mercy back! It is a great show and needs to be given another chance!
Mercy was the best new show. Bring it back!
I love the show Mercy. This is a great show. I am tired of all the boring shows, this is one of the great ones.
Thanks Kelly Payne
They are doing the same thing to Mercy that they did to CONAN! Seriously…who’s making these decisions?
Dang it! I want Mercy back! They should at least make one more just so we can have a decent finale!
Such a wonderful show.. I cry every time!!
Now I’m still crying over not having my Wednesday
night Mercy!!! They could at least have given us
the true last episode
Sure would like for them to have decided this before airing the finale!! I wanted Veronica back with Mike, her husband, and the way it ended there is no telling if Mike even survived!!! What a disappointment!!!!
NBC really screwed the pooch on this one. I am sooooooooo sick beyond sick of reality shows, and I can only fathom that we’re gonna end up with more of that crap in this time slot. So I’m now done with NBC
This is the only show I watched every week. Please bring it back. I liked seing a medical drama with the focus on the nurses.
How do you start a show and not even give the people who liked the show a finale!this makes me so mad!!
Mercy, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Heroes were the only shows worth turning my television set on for. Why don’t they try canceling shows with the slovenly women scantily clad or the ones that are clearly pure sex? THOSE are the ones who should be canceled. This show was great and I really hope someone takes it off of crappy NBC’s hands and gives it a chance. Just because the average American cannot tolerate a show that is boob-less and sex-less doesn’t mean the others have to pay the consequences. And that is why the world is going… Read more »
Now I have 2 shows that the networks have cancelled. This season I just started watching network tv again because of Happytown and Mercy, and Trauma (has it been cancelled too?) Now they are both cancelled. No thanks networks, back to cable for me. You can keep your teeny bopper reality shows.
Bring back Mercy! I’m getting really tired of NBC’s on again, off again scheduling. It may be time to just stop watching. Hubby and I also enjoyed Trauma.
