Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Man, that sucks I watched missing every show and I loved it. I wanted to see what happened next. They don’t even give the shows a chance anymore. What a full of idiots..
What a rip. I was waiting for the second season as I watch every single episode last season. Was a really good show and wanted to see what they did with Becca being taken. How in the heck do they figure these stupid ratings? Guess maybe it is time to stop watching new shows as they seem to cancel them all after only one season. Networks wonder why your ratings are dropping? You keep on dropping shows after one season of 10 – 13 episodes.
How very disappointing. Missing was quality action packed TV. I am taken aback by the fact that good entertainment is no longer respected when it’s creative; rather, reality television seems to dominate the masses, and that is NOT creative or good entertainment no matter how much the majority agree. I waited for Missing, just to now find out it has been cancelled. Maybe cable will pick it up. That’s where creativity is accepted.
This why I watch TNT and TBS and USA. ABC and the other networks like that cancel shows to early, so why bother watching them at all. Thanks ABC for proving me right to all my family and friends.
I am so disappointed there is not a season two. My daugher and I waited for every Thursday to roll around to watch the show. We didn’t miss a single one and was patiently waiting for the series to start again. Please put it back on, maybe a different night like Friday when there isn’t anything good on TV.
I think it wad a very good show edge of your seat..looking forward to the next episode..I think the reason it didn’t do well is because there was not enough sex or skin involved..that’s ashame if that’s the case…ABC put it back on!
It was my new favorite show and I could not wait for each week to air. Maybe if they put it on a different day and not thursday. It was suspenseful and ashley judd did a great acting job. I truly loved it. I also loved 24 and I felt like Missing was the new 24! Please bring it back!!
I think the show was great, but I believe the reason “Missing” started losing viewers is because it prolonged the finding of her son. Perhaps, if
Becca found her son after a few episodes, then went on to search for another, hence, Missing, it may have survived two or three more seasons. It is bewildering how tv series are rated. It WAS an interesting show, and like others I am sad to see it cancelled. Again…another tv dhow that promotes a strong women’s character is cancelled. ABC’s rating 0.0
I rearely watch televsion due to the lack of quality programing; however, Missing was an exceptional production. I am very disappointed that it was canceled and have contacted ABC to record my comments. Possibly, if others do so as well, just maybe it could cause ABC to give consideration to bring it back.
I am deeply disappointed that “Missing” was canceled…It was by far my favorite TV series since “House”. In my view, ratings do not matter at the beginning of a show, I am sure smart women and people everywhere are disappointed. We need to see women in leading roles, and “Missing” had a great cast and story. What can we do to bring the show back?
My daughter and I have waited all summer for the next season and we are really disappointed that it is cancelled. Please make more episodes for us.
I hate it that they canceled the second seaon of Missing. I didn’t watch it right from the start but I did record ti with the intention of watching it at a later time. Well, I did get around to watching all of the episodes and it is a GREAT show! They always take the good ones off!! Please bring it back!!!!
I was looking forward to the next season. I wish everything was not all about ratings and money.
I’m very angry that they didnt give it a second season i just got on to see when the second season was going to come back and found out it isnt.. Oh brother you finally get a good show and they take it off i’m sure they will replace it with a non family show with sex and bad language.. You really need to get away from the reality tv shows and violents this was a good show and i will miss it very much.
My husband and I were so excited to see season two just to find out that its canceled. Its really stupid and they should really consider giving it another chance. Even if it don’t really have good ratings those of us that did watch it want it back and it should be aired again..
