In February, CBS gave early renewals for eleven of the network’s popular series. One cult favorite missing from the list was the freshman romantic series Moonlight. The series had been performing decently on Friday nights but, because of the writers strike, there haven’t been any new episodes in months. The network is producing four new episodes for this season and will begin airing April 25th. Before giving the go-ahead for season two, CBS likely wants to see if anyone remembers the series.
Fans of the vampire series aren’t waiting to see if the cancellation axe falls before starting campaigns to save it. “Operation: Renew Moonlight” kicked off yesterday and the folks from three fan sites aren’t April Fooling around. They’ve united to encourage fans to fill out a campaign form and send it along with a clove of garlic to Nina Tassler, the president of CBS. Check out Moonlight-United.com for more information.
In another effort, fans wanting to draw attention to the series are teaming up with the Red Cross and YouChoose.net for a weeklong blood drive. The campaign plans have impressed series star Alex O’Loughlin enough to become a spokesman for the Red Cross.

The “Blood Drive to Save Moonlight Campaign” will be held from April 18th through April 27th (corresponding with the start of new episodes) in cities like Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Philadelphia. There are over 4,000 pledges to date and fans are being invited to donate their time, blood or cash to support the effort and the Red Cross. Blood drive participants will be given a special t-shirt as a thank-you. For more information, head on over to MoonlightBloodDrive.org.
CBS announces their 2008-09 schedule in May so we should know if the fans’ hard work has paid off by then. Stay tuned!
only show worth watching… best looking guy on tv even big screen, I don’t think they want to attract women’s audience by cancelling that show , I just don’t understand !
But they bring bagk the new adventures of old christine!!!!!!!
Moonlight is absolutely the best series I have watched! You just fall in love with the story line, and many people including myself hate to see CBS cancel MOONLIGHT! When I come home on Fridays from a long week I always look forward to watching Moonlight! Now that its gone my family, friends and I have nothing to look forward coming home to!
Canceling Moonlight is a huge mistake, and I really hope CBS fixes this mistake! CBS is going down the drain and Moonlight was keeping it up, too bad!
you cant cancell moonlight it is one of my best shows i like stuff like this i have all of buffy, charmed and angel i want to know what happens with the list i would really like it if you give moonlight more time to get more viewers.
you cant cancel moonlight given a chance and more effort to promote the show and this would be another cult show witha wide variety of ages i watched every episode with my teenage daughters and we really enjoyed it. networks would be crazy not to give this show a chance
There are only a few good shows on T.V. and Moonlight was one of those. It is a shame to cancel good shows and leave stupid sitcoms! I don’t like the same stupid cop shows that you keep renewing and the stupid reality shows. Moonlight and The Unit are among my favorites!
I hope someone picks it up I want to find out what happens now that the list of vamps are out. Plus, It is one of the best shows ever
I cannot believe this is happening, they did the same thing to (Surface),who bloody cares about these stupid Reality shows…I know I don’t,got enough that in me own life.
I love watching the show especially right after Ghost Whisperer,C.B.S. has a bad habit of scrapping good shows without really giving it a chnace, now wot will I do on Friday Nights?????
Like LORI, I am fifty and the brightest spot on my weekly calendar was Moonlight.
I think the series had its flaws, it wasn’t perfect, but like my other favourite programme The X-Files, I think given a bit more time, it would have become very successful. The potential was enormous and I can’t understand why CBS won’t invest more time and money. Quite frankly, the only decent thing left to watch is Mad Men.
The REALITY of the REALITY SHOWS is that they are some of the least expensive shows to produce. After all, the players are free of charge and will do just about anything on national TV. Sadly, MOONLIGHT was why I tuned in on Friday evenings. I had stopped watching GHOST WHISPERER, a year or two back but with the advent of MOONLIGHT I would tune into GHOST and then segway into MOONLIGHT. Guess I’ll find something else to watch on Friday as I am not interested at all in what they propose as its replacement. CBS, Les Moonves, Tina, et… Read more »
Friday nights will not be the same without Moonlight. Their hasn’t been a good Friday night in years. Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight are perfect together. My husband and I are both in our fifties and this is our favorite night of tv. If you put on one more “reality” show, we will quit watching TV. The reality is ,TV programming doesn’t leave anything to the imagination. Moonlight keeps us guessing, gives us something to look forward to on TV, and is very entertaining. I am so sad that the executives that make these decisions keep going for BIG reality bucks… Read more »
I rarely start watching new TV series on any network or cable because when I do, inevitably they go away! No wonder fewer people are watching these days. I might as well not and rent whatever videos of shows come out later!!!
I WOULD BE SO UPSET IF MOONLIGHT DIDNT COME BACK.ITS A GREAT SHOW.
ME AND MY FAMILY LOOK FORWARD TO OUR FRIDAY NIGHTS WATCHING GHOST WHISPER,THEN MOONLIGHT,,ITS A AWESOME SHOW
IT A DIFFERENT SHOW INSTEAD OF THE SAME OLD THINGS SOME OF THE SHOWS CBS IS KEEPING WE CAN SURE DO WITHOUT.
MOONLIGHT IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
IF CBS WERE SMART THEY WOULD BRING MOONLIGHT BACK ,THERE ARE TO MANY DUMB REALITY SHOWS INSTEAD OF GOOD A SHOWS.
PLEASE BRING BACK MOONLIGHT ITS GREAT COMBINATION WITH GHOST .
WHISPER IT MAKES FOR A GREAT FRIDAY NIGHT.
Such a welcome oasis in a desert of reality, insipid comedies and game show series. This is not just another vampire fantasy. And yet, CBS couldn’t see what an engaging, exciting show they had on their hands. I’m still shaking my head on this cancellation, and also shaking my head at all the drivel that the networks recycle every year. Every once in a while a surprisingly good series makes it to the schedule, but you have to blink or else you’ll miss it.
the show is great I have not missed an episode thanks to DVR cancel some reality
shows and bring on some more of the same.
So pleeeeeeeeease do not cancel theeeeee show.
Sadly, apparently all of the fans were not enough. CBS decided to cancel Moonlight. A company that bought a time slot on the CW is trying to get the show, but they only have another day to get it, or Warner Bros. is going to tear the set down….
