After CBS cancelled the supernatural drama, some hope emerged that Moonlight might continue on another network. Media Rights Capital (MRC) has purchased CW’s Sunday night airtime and they were offered the show to help them fill it. It was only a chance but it was enough to stall the destruction of the Moonlight sets and frankly, it was better than nothing.
Unfortunately, MRC is committed to producing its own original programming. They aren’t interested in taking on any cast-offs from other networks — even if one comes with legions of fans. Will MRC’s new shows be able to match the ratings of Moonlight on CBS? Highly doubtable, especially considering CW’s track night with Sunday nights.
There’s still glimmer of hope that MRC could pick up the show for mid-season but it’s a very, very remote possibility. Moonlight’s cause isn’t helped by the fact that the show doesn’t come cheap, a factor that played a part in CBS’s decision to drop it.
So, what’s left for Moonlight fans? A Jericho-like campaign? CBS’ disappointing experience with that show has made the network gun-shy of listening to supporters of other cult shows. Of Moonlight fans’ campaigns to save their show, CBS President Nina Tassler said, “It was a factor, obviously… It was a passionate fanbase, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s just hard to translate that into numbers.”
Though his show may have been cancelled, Moonlight star Alex O’Loughlin may not be done with the network. CBS still holds an option on the actor’s services and he’s apparently in demand. That may present a catch-22 for fans. Though fans may be happy for O’Loughlin to land other jobs, there’s a chance that, if Moonlight is finally saved, one of the show’s stars may not be available to do it. We’ll keep you posted so stay tuned!

I cannot believe CBS would take a fan favorite off the air. Not leaving much of a choice for viewing, other than the CSI shows or reality shows. I refuse to watch reality shows, too played out. Moonlight was my favorite show, as well as my son’s favorite show. We both looked forward to Friday nights and watching that together. Thanks for another disappointing year and bad choices of cancellations.
you put on all these reality shows and they suck. Why not leave a show on that is not about eating bugs, being a model,or about dancing ,or about a bunch of people that cant sing.
I agree– CBS has three CSI’s and cancelled Moonlight? The acting on Moonlight is definitely better acting than on a couple of those shows…
lets all send a cup of blood to cbs. like people did for Jericho sending the peanuts
I do not understand how anyone would cancel Moonlight. It is one of the best shows that has kept me setting on the edge of my seat week after week. I so looked forward to friday nights to watch Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight. Friday night will not be the same. Please bring it back.!!!!!!!!!!
CBS is censoring and removing posts on both the MOONLIGHT and JERICHO message boards at CBS.com to keep the “Save Moonlight” movement in check and
hinder The current “Save Jericho” movement as well.
Maybe CBS could put Alex on CSI to replace “warwick” 🙂
First Jericho and now Moon light. LISTEN CBS I will NOT!!!! watch anything you air. You pull us in let us love a show and it’s characters then drop it. Great shows, while you keep on 3 different CSI’s. CBS GO TO HELL!!!!
I am so totally broken-hearted that my favorite show has been cancelled.
It gave me something to look forward to every week.
It was really hot and interesting – a different take on vampirism than I’ve seen before.
There is no replacing Alex or Sophia – they are so perfect together.
CBS seems to like to screw with us. The Class was good also and it is gone.
They have dumped so many good shows over the past few years.
I have no reason to watch CBS anymore.
If this show is cancelled I will NOT watch anything that CBS has to offer and that includes all new and old shows as well.
Moonlight was fantastic and this is just ridiculous. I know that network will survive without my viewing their programs but at least I will have the personal satisfaction of never bringing anything they have to offer into my living room.
Moonlight needs to find a new home. One that will respect the fans and promote the show like it SHOULD be promoted. Please write to the CW, USA, FX and Sci-Fi networks to ask them to consider picking up the show.
I agree, Alex IS Moonlight. Anybody else in that role…..ain’t gonna cut it.
I’ll be so upset if the show doesn’t come back. The season finale left some questions and it would be disappointing not to see them answered.
As one of the oldest fans of this show,it far exceeds anyones expectations into the fantasy world of vampire novels. It is worth any expenses spent to creat the full illusion of Mick St. Johns devotion to Beth Turners well being. To cancel this show or lose any of the outstanding cast members would be a complete bizarre blunder of the network!!!
There is no Moonlight without Alex,If Moonlight moves to another Network Alex will go with it I”m pretty sure his contract is with WB and Silver productions, and his contract with Moonlight comes before anything,
Moonlight without Alex O’Loughlin is NOT Moonlight. Alex IS Moonlight. Without him, no one will watch it.
