TV show description:
This comedy series revolves around Craig Robinson (Craig Robinson), the lead singer and keyboardist of the funk band Nasty Delicious. While waiting for his big break, Craig needs to pay the bills so he takes a job as a substitute high school music teacher. The kids think his class is an easy “A”, while Craig is moved to inspire students like Halle Foster (Amandla Stenberg).
School Principal Eileen Taylor (Peri Gilpin) believes that rules are made to be strictly upheld. She’s none too fond of Craig’s unorthodox teaching style — or his crush on pretty English teacher Victoria (Meagan Good) who’s also an old flame.
It’s a constant struggle for Craig, having one foot in the music world with his band, Nasty Delicious, and having one foot in the teaching world. But if Craig wants to get the girl of his dreams and teach these kids the joys of music, he’ll have to buckle down, shape up, and get the funk out.
Other characters include Craig’s guitar-playing brother Ben (Brandon T. Jackson); P.E. teacher Jimmy Hooper (Ben Koldyke); teacher and secret stripper Ashleigh Fellows (Spencer Grammer); and Supervisor Dalton (Tim Bagley).
Episode #6 — School’s Out for Summer
The school year is just about over, and both students and teachers at Studs Terkel are beyond ready for summer vacation. While planning the Nasty Delicious summer tour, Craig invites Jimmy to be co-manager, along with Supervisor Dalton. Craig asks Ashleigh and Samir if they want to join the tour, but Samir is going to Delhi for a verbal stoning from his parents and Ashleigh’s bound for Paris. Since there’s a science convention in town, Ashleigh’s certain she’ll make the extra money for her ticket, since she has a new striptease featuring some CGI and a raccoon. That night Craig and Ben are performing at FloJack’s per usual, when they receive some earth shattering visitors: Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson of Earth, Wind & Fire, their favorite band of all time. It turns out they’re big fans of Nasty Delicious, and they want Craig and Craig only to join them on their year-long tour. The next morning, Craig floats into the teacher’s lounge on cloud nine, bursting with the big news that his wildest dream just came true. When Principal Taylor reminds him that he signed a contract to teach next year, he asks her to tear it up.
But when she warns him that tearing up the contract means Craig will never teach at Studs Terkel again, he gets slightly cold feet and asks for a week to think it over. Taylor agrees, but Dalton and Jimmy aren’t going to let Craig off that easy. Their hearts are broken: if Craig takes off with Earth, Wind & Fire, the Nasty Delicious tour is off. Craig’s surprised that both his fellow teachers and his students are mad as hell, while all Principal Taylor can do is shake her head and refrain from saying, “I told you so.” She thinks Earth, Wind & Fire will be fine without Craig, but the kids won’t. Craig learns this very lesson when he thinks Deandre has run away from school heartbroken to lose his music teacher. Little does he know, Principal Taylor paid Deandre to put on a good show.
Samir confesses to Jimmy that he went to the strip club to see Ashleigh dance. Now that he’s seen her naked, he’s paralyzed by guilt. Luckily, Jimmy has all the answers to all the questions. All Samir has to do to get rid of his guilt is let Ashleigh see him naked – then the tables are turned and the score is 40-love. The plan is hatched and Samir takes off his clothes in the teacher’s lounge restroom, while Jimmy tries to woo Ashleigh inside. He manages to give both Supervisor Dalton and Principal Taylor the shock of a lifetime, but not Ashleigh, who merely hears rumors that Samir is flashing everyone – and that he’s blessed. When she confronts him, Samir finally admits the truth, which compels Ashleigh to give him a kiss – and the hope of a thousand Trojans.
That night, Craig tells Ben he’s not going on tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. His real dream is to succeed with Nasty Delicious – even though Earth, Wind & Fire think he’s high for making this choice. They agree to make some dreams come true, joining Craig, Ben and the band for a rendition of “September.” (Courtesy NBC.)

Aww this was 1 of my favorite new shows. I enjoyed every episode. Fun Fact: Did anyone else immediately recognize Rue from the Hunger Games?
Love this show. I rarely get a chance to watch TV, but I make time for this. Writing is funny. Acting is great. It’s different and unique. A nice break from the usual, predictable shows.
This show was so unique and made the whole family laugh! Please don’t cancel it! Love the story line…reminded me of the Welcome Back Carter sitcom — so fun!!!
