Mr. Robot recently started production on season two for USA Network, and there are some new spoilers for the upcoming season. Sam Esmail, the man in charge of the series, spoke at a panel for the series at SxSW on Monday, and he shared a bit about the direction of season two.
According to Deadline, he revealed that the series would take on the encryption debate. He said:
“What’s weird is that we were really going into [Season 2] talking about encryption and privacy. And then this whole thing with Apple and [CEO] Tim Cook happened.”
Esmail revealed he is on the side of Apple’s CEO in the controversy, but he did speak with the show’s FBI consultants. He is hoping that the “show contributes to that conversation, brings that conversation up again.”
Are you a fan of Mr. Robot? Are you surprised that they are jumping into such a hot button topic for the show’s second season? Tell us what you think.
Good news! This is exactly what I thought they would do. Can’t wait for Mr. Robot to return. I miss Rami Malek! He’s brilliant.
I am, indeed, a fan of Mr. Robot. It is intellectually challenging and compelling. I can think of no other TV show that will give Encryption and Privacy a platform of serious introspection. I look forward to the adventure.
Well, someone has to talk about it intelligently, the government surly doesn’t.
