ABC has given a put pilot commitment to A+E Studios new crime drama, Murder Town, starring Jada Pinket Smith.
From Deadline:
Written by veteran showrunner Barry Schindel (Intelligence, Castle) based on an original script by Rob Fresco, Murder Town centers on a beautiful and complicated prosecutor (Pinkett Smith) who makes history as Wilmington, Delaware’s, first African American District Attorney. She finds herself confronted by old loyalties and loves, a shocking revelation about her murdered husband and a polarizing, racially-charged case that threatens to burn her and her city to the ground.
Schindel and Pinkett Smith executive produce alongside Miguel Melendez for Overbrook Entertainment and A+E Studios.
What do you think? Do you like the sound of ABC’s Murder Town TV series? If it makes it to air, will you give it a shot?
I cannot wait to see it. I work and cower here.
Wilmington is a town of 70k people, a small city that very much understands and is trying desperately to curtail violence in the area: bring business and opportunity to alleviate poverty that leads to violence, encourage migration and tourism to consume the services it has sought to provide and create spaces where young people feel secure. This series is not only taking the wind out of Wilmington’s sails and dollars out of its pockets but also perpetuating a culture of fear, which in turn may further the crime problem.
I do not think I’ll give it a shot. ABC has a problem with killing off great shows like Castle this year. Why start liking another show and have two show runners like Hawley and Winter kill it. No thanks
