Not long after the TV ratings came in for last Thursday night’s episode of My Generation, the show was cancelled by ABC. To the dismay of many viewers, the series was pulled from the schedule immediately and ultimately replaced by repeats of Grey’s Anatomy. Will viewers ever get to see the remaining episodes? How many are there anyway?
My Generation follows a group of twenty-somethings who were part of a documentary while in high school. Ten years after graduation, the filmmaker returns to see how their lives have changed. The ABC series stars Julian Morris, Keir O’Donnell, Kelli Garner, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Stahl-David, Anne Son, Daniella Alonso, Jaime King, and Sebastian Sozzi.
With such a large ensemble cast, you would think that many would comment about the cancellation. That hasn’t happened. For the most part, the stars have all been pretty silent, perhaps by request of the network and/or the producers. The one exception has been King. Earlier this week she tweeted, “Thanks to all for supporting My Generation! I hope there will be a way for all of u to see the rest of the amazing shows we made! Xx” Responding to a comment from an upset viewer, King commiserated, “it is frustrating sometimes.”
Shortly after the cancellation news broke, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen playfully tweeted to My Generation creator Noah Hawley, “condolences. we should have a beer and compare third episodes.” A few days later, Hawley responded by simply writing, “done.”
Hawley has offered brief updates on the show. On Monday, he wrote, “Saw most of the cast last night. My understanding is we’ll be finishing the 8 existing episodes for release online or DVD.” He later added, “We would say more, but it’s not our style.” Last night, Hawley indicated that discussions about releasing the six unaired installments were ongoing.
Considering the abrupt cancellation, it’s highly unlikely that the cast and crew were able to wrap up the show’s many storylines.
What do you think? Would you like to see the remaining episodes of My Generation? Would you consider buying a DVD of the series? Would you like the producers to hear about what would have happened?

The show could have worked on another night. Thursdays didn’t work for this show. Competition was high.
I really enjoyed this show! I was so bummed when I found out it was cancelled. I hope they release the unaired episodes because I would really LOVE to see them!
The network didn’t even give it a chance for viewers to form an opinion. They don’t even count the viewers that DVR the show as ratings. They only aired 2 episodes and then cancelled it–how sad. Just when you get into it, they do that.
what?!?!?! they canceled my generation. this was a good show i was really looking forward to watch the 3 episode!!! and then i notice it some other show!! wth man.
ABC does it again. Does anyone else remember when they canceled “My So-Called Life” back in the early ’90’s? That was also a huge mistake. Damn them!! I guess it’s not the audience they are looking for. However, I am 29 years old and a part of the generation that is still disappointed by MSCL being canceled.
Man, I’m so bummed to hear My Generation was cancelled. I don’t normally follow series, but I was actually wanting to follow this one and put a reminder in my phone for every week. I was so looking forward to watching it this past Thursday, but Grey’s Anatomy was on instead. I thought for some reason, I had the station, time, or day wrong, but I knew I didn’t. I was so bummed. I really wish they hadn’t cancelled it. Hopefully, they can move it to a different channel or online.
YES! i love this show and rly wish ik how it would of ended up..i hate when good shows dont make it
I am upset this is the third time ABC has done this to me…so many great storylines in this show and now all I get is no ending this SUCKS!!!!!! Thanks for nothing ABC!!!
I am so UPSET!!!! I was really looking forward to what would happen between Brenda and Anders, but now we will never know. There is no way they could finish the storyline in 6 episodes. ABC has cancelled yet another great show! they didnt even give it a chance. I was so upset thursday night when i came home to my TIVO and it hadnt recored it. this could have been my new favorite show.
Since the day I started seeing the preview, I set it up on my schedule to watch this show. Finally after coming out I really enjoyed it. The idea is so nice and actually something that’s real in life where not many people get to become what the dream to be for circumstance or what not. I am pretty upset but it’s not the first time this has happened.
I loved this show, it sucks its not getting a chance, and it sucks that thats how it is these days shows have to be hits off the bat or thats it, shows like this should be aired on cable networks because they have more of a chance and less veiwer expection…….. i really liked this show one of the few news ones i actually liked, i was so looking forward to watching the episode online ans then saw it never aired. i’m in college and a lot of people my age watch shows not on the tv but online… Read more »
I was actually starting to really like this show although I did not watch it live due to college football, but I do watch it online every weekend…I’m really disappointed in ABC recently they cancelled Flash Forward which I LOVED…V which I was actually starting to get into. Maybe they should let shows go a few seasons and let people get used to them being on the air and surely don’t cancel them after 2 episodes. Quit throwing in the towel so soon. Maybe your losing viewers because no one wants to get too attached to a show for fear… Read more »
I”m very happy that the show has been cancelled. Nothing against the crew or the producer but the story lines were just pathetic and got away from so many things and real facts. The biggest one that upset me as a former serviceman is that Mr brooks character didn’t really follow the core that an army officer lives by. Good luck on your next adventure and for the director plz check your facts right before jumping on your next project specially if it involves military people and please for God if you place a actor in that role make sure… Read more »
I was really liking this show! Wish it wasn’t being canceled after only 2 episodes. I hope they put the remaining episodes on-line and that the character’s stories come to some kind of close instead of leaving us hanging. I watch Grey’s also, but I won’t be watching it in place of this show.
I really like My Generation! It was based on the time frame that I grew up in and to see how the characters grew up was really interesting to me. I don’t know if I would buy the DVD, but would definitely watch it online or if they moved it to another channel. It seems like a lot of the shows I like on the major networks are canceled. It’s definitely frustrating and upsetting.
