The once popular My Name Is Earl sitcom was cancelled last month. After four seasons on NBC, the show’s executive producer, Greg Garcia, was informed early in the morning, just 30 minutes before the news was given to the press.
While being dumped by the peacock network didn’t come as a huge surprise, Garcia wasn’t ready for the show to end. He told the LA Times, “There’s a lot of reasons the show would work well on another network, and I think we’d do very well with some promotion. We certainly feel like we have more stories to tell. That’s why we left the show on season four on a cliffhanger. And I know we’ve got at least another season in us and a lot of great ideas. So if another network wants to put us on, fantastic. Nothing that would make me happier.”
It was largely presumed that the FOX network would take on Earl since the sitcom’s produced by a sister company, 20th Century Fox Television. Execs at the network apparently downplayed the possibility and, when the time came, decided to pass.

Ethan Suplee, “Randy” on the show, broke the news to fans, writing, “Thanks for the effort guys, we appreciate it. It seems that Earl is actually dead. Fox has passed. The mustache will live on in our hearts.”
Now, TBS is apparently interested in keeping Earl going. The cable channel has been airing the show in syndication and expressed some interest in picking up the show at the May upfronts.
Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, told Company Town that the network likes to develop original programming but that new episodes of an established show like Earl would be an asset in drawing viewers to sample them. At the time, Koonin hadn’t been approached by 20th Century Fox but said, “Tell them to give me a call. We’re in the book.”
The discussions for 13 new episodes of Earl are still in the early stages and there are a some major hurdles that would need to be overcome before they could become a reality. The actors and writers have all been released from their contracts and they’d have to be renegotiated. Also, the show is an expensive single-camera comedy and the overall budget would be an issue as well.
On the positive side however, the show is already in syndication and more episodes would mean additional rerun money for years to come. With that in mind, the studio and participating talent will likely want to make the deal work if at all possible.
While Earl’s return is still considered a longshot, the fact that there are discussions to revive the series is certainly a good sign. What do you think?

i will agree awesome sit-com and hoping for a season 5 but if no network is possible what about a movie too end it?
I think that with a better promo, and maybe a twist this could take off in a big way. The longer its off, the futher this gets from profitable. TBS is keeping it kicking and still making it plausible. Now the thing that producers know that we don’t is how much would overhead would be. Bottom line $ and can it profit, off hand I would say yes, but I need all the vaiables to be sure. Either way its not if you like it that counts, its how well do the masses like it.

The first time I saw My name is Earl on television. I went strait to netflix to watch all 96 episodes from beginning to end. The show was much more than a show to me, I believed in karma long before I saw the show and I am going through a tough time right now but the way everything was put together made me realize that things will work out in the end. I still believe everything will wether the show airs again or not its just I looked at Earl as my remodel in my hard times and its… Read more »
This show has inspired me to think about things I have done wrong myself. Watching Earl and the rest of the cast has taught me to do the right things. I have realized that doing the right thing is the best way. It has inspired me to be a better person. This is also a show that helps me when I am down. I watched the whole show online because I did not start watching it until it went to TBS.
BETTER KEEP IT RUNNING!
To all you big dummies …My Name is Earl has had four seasons of great ideas and good reviews. i think they need to put it back on tv !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wtf were they thinking taking if off
Its as if all the creative shows are being canceled for these low cost silly reality shows.
yes thats what i mean and they are all staged anyways they are fake
I’m not really interested in knowing why the show was cancelled seeing as the execs at major television studio’s are idiots to begin with. I just want to see more, or at least some sort of conclusion. EVERYone I have asked about this show has liked it, even my girlfriend whom is obsessed with the crime dramas (like we need more of those) and hospital dramas (those too) liked it. I’m sure the decision was made BECAUSE of the people obsessed with said shows were the largest audience so the network execs decided to suck every last drop of blood… Read more »
Bring “My Name Is Earl” back!! It should not have been cancelled, its the best show ever! My entire family loves this show, its a shame that no one, or it seems that no one is doing anything to get it back on. Besides you cant leave the fans hanging. I see a future for this show, any network that gives this awesome show a chance will have good karma deeds coming their way..LOL FYI if the budget is a problem I’ll play a role..lol
It is really sad that “My Name is Earl” has been cancelled. However Mr. TV Executives… here in USA and EUROPE, This serie has became an ICON of creativity and humour…Something ssooooo rare to find in this days in a soap of so called “realities” and with so much “laws series” or “friend sagas” that all are alike. However Earl and the guys has capture our attention with their dialogs so creative, smart, brilliant and most FUNNY… all actors are perfect for their roles … and they played with so much naturality that everybody has their fans and are loved… Read more »
