Though it was promoted ad nauseum during the coverage of the Summer Olympics, NBC could find few friends for their My Own Worst Enemy series. The TV show has been cancelled after airing just four episodes.
My Own Worst Enemy follows the strange life of Henry Spivey (Christian Slater), a hum-drum suburbanite with a wife and two kids (played by Madchen Amick, Taylor Lautner, and Bella Thorne). Unknown to Henry and his loved ones, he has a dual identity as a secret operative and trained killer named Edward Albright.
Edward works for a superspy organization under supervisor Mavis Heller (Alfre Woodard) and is partnered with friend and fellow operative Tom Grady/Raymond Carter (Mike O’Malley). Others in the series include Omid Abtahi, Saffron Burrows, James Cromwell, Sarai Givaty, Mark Ivanir, Mindy Sterling, Missy Yager, Eugenia Yuan, and Louis Giambalvo.
The show debuted on October 13, 2008 on NBC. Despite a lot of high-profile promotion, the premiere attracted only 7.27 million viewers and a 3.0/8 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers dropped to 5.69 million and a 2.6/6. The most recent episode hit a low of 4.27 million and 1.8/5. Though Heroes has been struggling this season, Worst Enemy has been losing over 40% of its lead-in audience and more than that in the key demographic.

NBC has announced that they are cancelling the series following the completion of its ninth episode. It’s been confirmed that the network plans to continue to air the series until all of the episodes have been shown.
If Worst Enemy goes uninterrupted, the series finale should air on December 15th, the same night as Heroes’ so-called “fall finale.” Because of the abrupt cancellation, fans of Worst Enemy aren’t expected to be given any kind of conclusion to the show’s ongoing storylines. That’s enough to make even mild-mannered Henry angry. Stay tuned!

My own worst enemy was the only show’s i watch on this network,
Now that they cancelled, there no reason watch or care about Nbc
glad to see im not the only one disappointed in NBC’s decision. this show is absolutely amazing. Finally there was a show on tv that i was excited to watch. heck, i waited for Monday’s just so I could watch this show. NBC better get a brainwave and bring MOWE back, otherwise ill boycott.
NBC should reverse the decision. In compiling the ratings, NBC didn’t take into account DVR viewership and when the numbers add up, it’s over 11 million people watching My Own Worst Enemy, which is a lot of people. Even with 5.7 million, that’s a lot of people. To expect My Own Worst Enemy to beat CSI (though I never watched it, yet I know CSI is popular, I don’t live in a vacuum), is unrealistic and NBC should be happy with the audience it has. Chances are, the new show won’t do better and I’ll make sure of that.
I don’t understand why they think all people want to see are the unintelligent reality garbage!? Finally a show you can really get into and they cancel it!? I really liked “Twilight” too….
They finally come out with a show that keeps you thinking, entertains and makes you want to see what’s next and all of a sudden it’s axed!! I mean come on, finally, something new and fresh with a twist instead of all this reality crap and same old ,same old, predictable crime shows. In the old days it took longer than few episodes to cancel a show, gez, give it a chance. It’s the best show I’ve seen in a long time.
This show is awesome. I am extremely disappointed in its cancellation. It has a ton of potential, and the acting has been very good so far. The writing seems to improve throughout the season, but yet it doesn’t matter. Many people are going to wait till the end of the season to watch it in full, and they cancelled before people even had the opportunity to do that.
Agreed, agreed, agreed!!!! This has to be the BEST new show to come along in years. It is a great original idea vs. “lets make a ‘comical’ 30 min show capitalizing on and skirting around sex”. Please… This is, maybe not the worst decision, but pretty damn close. So frustrating! Oh, I get it…there needs to be room for more ‘Reality’ crap. Here’s a novel idea…move it out of the 10PM slot. Give the show a chance!
Can’t believe they are going to cancell such a good show. They need to move it to a better time slot.
NBC is STUPID!!! Any good new show- they cancel (referring to last year’s Journeyman). But let’s all stay tuned for the 50th season of Deal or No Deal.
Great show – an original idea for a change. Networks need to take into consideration those who DVR one or 2 shows, and watch them later. Get with the times. Another realty show – we can only hope not…..Netflix, here we come.
I have this to say to NBC…please please please please find a solution to keep My Own Worst Enemy on the air….PLEASE
WTF NBC!! ARE YOU BRAIN FARTING BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY? My Own Worst Enemy has a large following enough to refill that voiding time Thursday time slot for ER. The NBC Thursday roll-out is currently in need of higher action that MOWE could really MOVE in to and alter ratings in a positive direction.
I was a huge “CSI Miami” fan…until I saw the first episode of MOWE. Now I am hooked!!! It keeps me on the edge of my seat. There have been very few TV shows that are a “do not miss” for me. This is one. Please don’t pull the plug!!!
are you guys at nbc crazy my own worst enemy is the hottest show u got and you gonna cancel that .i think it’s time for a change in the leader ship department there.i guest it’s back to csi ,i bet you asses gonna cancel life next.are u guys even thinking when there is an option to tivo and look at show on the internet why would you stay up untill ten to run the risk of getting up late for work the other day and 1 more thing jimmy falon is not funny show late night is soon gonna… Read more »
