Happy trails. ABC has cancelled Nashville after four seasons, Deadline reports.
The country music drama, which stars Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton, is currently nearing the end of its fourth season.
The cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise. Only a few weeks ago, we reported new showrunners Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz were getting the writer’s room ready for season five and hopeful ABC would renew the series.
However, ratings have dropped over the course of the show’s fourth season. So far, Nashville is earning an average rating of .98 in the 18-49 demo and 4.221 million viewers. Comparatively, the third season averaged a 1.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.16 million total viewers.
The season four, and now series, finale of Nashville airs on May 25th.
What do you think? Do you watch Nashville? Do you think the series should’ve been renewed?
This was a great show. It covered all the emotions that come with fame and fortune. The did an excellent job of showing how human deceit can influence relationships, as in the “interview” with the Exes. Her intentions were quite transparent. I also liked the part about the gay singer. It was interesting that the show came on the same night as Empire. Though there were two schools on music, if you watch them both you get to see all the similarities between the lives of the char actors. (sibling rivalry, homophobia, uncontrolled lust and more). I am a fan… Read more »
I’m so sad that Nashville is being cancelled. I love this show, it’s one of my favorites.
Nashville is a great show and needs to be renewed or picked up by another network. The writing, acting, and most of all, the music is brilliant! It always keeps me glued to the TV. To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of country music, and when I started watching this show, it opened my mind to it, and I love it now. I live it LA, and I have plans to visit Nashville and the surrounding area. It was because of this show. It’s a shame that it’s getting canceled.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE SHOW
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..Please do NOT cancel the show!!!
I love the show. I think the delayed start of this season could have affected the ratings.
I really love this show! I hate to see it come to an end! Everyone in the show is extremely talented. Wish they would rethink the decision.
I think it’s sad they are cancelling Nashville. I liked the show very much and do not like some of the new ABC shows so maybe it’s time to switch stations!!!
I’m upset that this show was cancelled. A lot of my friends are also upset. They all enjoyed watching this show every Wednesday night. We really are going to miss it.
Yes I love the show but my vote doesn’t count since I’m not in the 18-49 demo. Great show love the music and the actors played real people and owned their characters. Loved Connie Britton as a caring mom and ethical professional superstar.
I ♡ Nashville. WHY CANCEL?? with so many story lines that need a conclusion. How are they to do it in 1hr for the season finale. Im so mad. They have such wonderful actors and actress’ and better yet they can sing. Better than a musical. It takes us inside of what really happens when you are a singer. I wish CMT could pick up this show since its all about country music..
My heart is saddend. :(….
Your idea for CMT to pickup the series is brilliant. It would be a great opportunity for them pick up more viewers. If they do I hope they promote it so others can view it. I know I would follow. Every thing about that show was great: music, acting, cast, the reality of the story lines and the Nashville locales. .
Nashville has been my favorite nighttime television show the past four years. It breaks my heart that it’s being canceled.
Very sad to hear about the cancellation of Nashville. Have watched every episode. Love the show. Tired of the Gay issue being pushed so much but Love Love Love the rest of it. I will miss it terribly. Bad choice on ABC’s part. Please reconsider.
Extremely sad to see one of the few favorite TV shows that I watch canceled. Really hope this is just a temporary lapse in judgment and they find a way to keep Nashville on the air for its loyal fans.
Why is it that every time there is a great music show it gets cancelled. They should have moved the slot or revamped the series with Juliets return. So disappointed!!
