Connie Britton, star of the recently-cancelled Nashville TV show on ABC, stopped by ABC’s The View today, to talk about the Nashville TV series finale, airing Wednesday, May 25th, at 10:00pm. Aptly enough, the episode title is, “Maybe You’ll Appreciate Me Someday.”
The interview was choppy due to seemingly obvious (to us) edits. After making small talk about Britton’s adorable five year old son, co-host Joy Behar said, “We’re all sorry to note Nashville is entering its final season.” In fact, the show is ending its unplanned final season. Continuing, she asked Britton, “Are you upset?”
Over clips from Nashville, Britton (audio only) said, “You know, I — I am upset. I am going to miss so much about that show and the people who are on that show with me, the crew… And being in that town was so incredible…”
After what seemed to this reporter to be an obvious cut, freshman co-host Paula Faris said, “We actually have a sneak peek at the finale that’s airing this coming Wednesday night.”
The sneak peak of “Maybe You’ll Appreciate Me Someday,” included in The View broadcast, features a concerned exchange between Rayna (Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten) about their daughter Maddie (Lennon Stella) hanging around a man who once tried to take advantage of Rayna.
Despite the tone of the sneak peek scene, when it ended, the camera cut to laughter and applause. In an apparent non-sequitur, Faris said, “Maybe we should say — let’s celebrate those four seasons.”
The gracious Ms. Britton said she will certainly be celebrating. Adding, “We’ve been so grateful to the fans, because the fans are the ones who have kept us on the air for so long. And, you know, they’re the ones that keep us inspired to keep going. And the good thing about Nashville is the people are always going to love that town — always going to love country music. So, Nashville’s (i.e. the city’s) not going anywhere.”
Substitute co-host Sunny Hostin then changed the subject to Britton’s turn as Fay Resnick on FX‘s American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson. Later, the talk turned to Red Nose Day, which is sponsored by NBC. It is interesting that ABC’s editors let Britton talk about projects from other networks, but seemingly cut discussion of the network’s own four year series.
UPDATE: The clip on The View‘s website matches what was broadcast, but would not play when embedded, here. Watch it on ABC.
After publishing and realizing the embedded clip would not function, we went searching for Britton’s segment on YouTube. Watch it below. The scene between Deacon and Rayna is not what aired on the broadcast. In the YouTube version, Rayna and Deacon are talking about their own relationship issues. Now the applause and laughter makes sense.

Here is ABC’s description of the Nashville TV series finale, “Maybe You’ll Appreciate Me Someday,” season four, episode 21.
Rayna resorts to drastic measures when she learns that Maddie has crossed paths with a duplicitous figure from her past. Juliette must choose how to publicly reckon with the truth of Jeff Fordham’s death—a decision that directly affects Layla. Scarlett and Gunnar consider parting ways as bandmates, and Will finally decides to do what he should have done long ago—step up as the leader of a cause and a community.
And here’s Nashville’s “The Wrong Song,” just because.
What do you think? Did you feel like Britton’s segment was edited in a choppy fashion? Should Nashville be cancelled or renewed? Sound off, in the comments.
Please bring Nashville back! I look forward to this show every week. The music is so awesome and it truly is one of my favorites!
My husband and I really love this show, with its great original music, fun cast of characters, and we are so surprised that it is being so suddenly canceled. We were very disappointed by tonights’ final show wrap as you could tell that they had had no time to finish up the story in a satisfying way…ABC should have given them more time to wrap the a great show that has aired for 4 years. Will miss it – a gem.
Nashville was about the only show I made sure to watch every week. Will miss it and its music.
I love Nashville too. So sad to hear it is not going to be on next season. All the good shows don’t last. Ugh.
I love that show & never miss it. Why is it being canceled???? It’s a great show, with beautiful music & ppl. I have down loaded all the music. Really? It’s being canceled? Why?
I love nashville. I watch it every week. Im very upset they are canceling it. I was so surprised when i heard it was ending. It has not been on for very long. It is a great show. The network is making a huge mistake.
I’m not only disappointed but I am also downright angry that they would take the show off the air so soon
I can’t believe ABC cancelled Nashville. It’s one on my favorites shows. Great drama and great music. What a mistake!
Kim,
That’s what the networks seem to do now. Yank a show that you love off the air and, sometimes, with no explanation or conceivable ending within the final show. (Disclaimer: I haven’t watched the past 2 episodes so maybe they ended the show with a decent “wrap up”.) So, once again I say goodbye to another loved show of mine -along with Army Wives, American Dreams, Providence, etc etc etc 🙂
So sorry that this show is being cancelled. ABC is making a mistake. Do away with some of the other shows that are stupid and have no real context.
Canceling Nashville really took me by surprise. One of the best shows with a mix of wonderful music and good writing pulling in issues we deal with on a daily basis. We keep the trash of bachelor/être for years. Truly says something about dumbing down.
Was my absolute favorite show and I am not even a country music fan but I looked forward to every Wednesday night to watch this show. I am so disappointed as it seems they always cancel the best shows! You should really reconsider!
We are extremely disappointed that Nashville has been cancelled! This series has done something remarkable. It showcased country music as a genre of substance, honesty, and real appeal. My husband and I became fans of the music, downloading the soundtracks and listening to songs over and over (especially those performed by Gunner and Scarlett). This was a remarkable feat indeed, as my husband and I were never “country” fans prior to the show. We were also thoroughly engaged by the story lines, which were relevant, poignant, and honest. And the acting was outstanding! Why is ABC pulling the plug? This… Read more »
I cannot believe that ABC would be so short-sighted to cancel two wonderfully scripted, casted and executed shows – Castle and Nashville! High quality on both! They keep crap like Bachelor/ette and Mistresses, which I suppose speaks to the dumbing-down this country has gone thru in the last decade or so. Still – very sad. Just like Pan Am and Life on Mars, very enjoyable shows, and they cancelled those too. ABC Executives, you are idiots!!!!
This is so true! Well said. They leave those lame shows on & cancel the good ones.
We really have enjoyed Nashville and Castle. Can’t believe they canceled these shows. With Nashville we bought the CD’s and listen to them all the time. This was a fun show just the right amount of drama and social issues in the mix along with some great music. Silly decision
Simply can’t believe that Nashville is being cancelled! Is there Anything those of us who have been devoted, actually “hooked” can do.. It is no surprise that network shows loose viewers to cable! You get a winner, like Nashville, and you cancel! Ridiculous! I was in a meeting last week and 5 of the 7 people there are Avid Nashville fans!! ABC has made a big mistake!!
hi Elaine. There are petitions you can sign to save Nashville. Go to the official Facebook page and also Google the petitions. Can’t remember the name of the one I signed…
