Last season, the NBC schedule had a few ratings successes but the peacock network had a lot more misses. How will their shows do this time around? Which will be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): America’s Got Talent, American Ninja Warrior, Aquarius, Better Late Than Never, Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, The Biggest Loser, The Blacklist, Blindspot, The Carmichael Show, Caught On Camera With Nick Cannon, Crowded, Dateline NBC, Dateline: On Assignment, Game of Silence, Grimm, Heartbeat, Hollywood Game Night, Heroes Reborn, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Little Big Shots, Maya & Marty, The Mysteries Of Laura, The Night Shift, The Player, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Shades Of Blue, Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge, Superstore, Telenovela, Truth Be Told, Undateable, The Voice, and You, Me and the Apocalypse.
There’s lots of data that NBC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
I really enjoy watching the Mysteries of Laura. I hope that it is renew for season 6. It is one of my favorite shows.
I really have enjoyed the Mysteries of Laura. I hope that it is renewed for a 6th season. There are a lot of viewers that love the show.
Renewed for 6TH SEASON? It’s been on 2 seasons. That’s why the show needs to be CANCELLED. Not only because the show did a 1.12 for 16 episodes(which is putrid). Not only because Debra Messing is getting paid between $250-300,000(or more) per episode for a show that would already HAVE BEEN CANCELLED with practically any other Female actress on NBC in it.
When will we find out if shows are canceled? NBC has renewed so many, that there are only a few left. I’d prefer Laura getting renewed and Grimm being canceled. Grimm is feeling old and very soap operaish this season.
Grimm was renewed. No decision on The Debacle of Laura(I mean Mysteries of Laura.)
I started watching the Mysteries of Laura because my name is Laura and I’m a huge fan of Debra Messing. Turns out, it’s an amazing show. It shocks me that the stats aren’t higher. It’s funny, sweet and clever and Laura is relatable on so many levels. One of my most favorite shows ever and certainly one of the only shows I look forward to every week. You just can’t end it without Laura and Jake getting back together! Please don’t cancel!!!
Shades of Blue (Renewed)*
Thanks for noticing that notation was missing!
The big bang theory was my favorite show for the longest time until I watched mysteries of laura (I watched all of season 1 in under 48 hours thanks to netflix) max carnegie is adorable and laura is a flat out badass! Love the show, it really mixes a reality TV show with a detective show well! MUST RENEW
“The Mysteries of Laura” could have held it’s own until the addition of Callie Thorne. A horribly written character played by a D-list actress. Killed the show.
Please renew “The Mysteries of Laura” love that gang !!!!!
The mysteries of Laura is a great show please keep it on!! Tuesday and Wednesday nights are a big NBC night in this house!!
My family’ s favorite shows are Shades of Blue and Mysteries of Laura. Please, please don’t cancel them.
