Last season, NBC launched a dozen new scripted TV shows. Some found success in the ratings but they schedule had a few ratings successes but far more were cancelled. Which will be cancelled or renewed during the 2016-17 season? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): America’s Got Talent, Blindspot, The Blacklist, The Blacklist: Redemption, The Carmichael Show, Chicago Fire, Chicago Justice, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, Dateline NBC, Emerald City, First Dates, The Good Place, Grimm, Hollywood Game Night, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Little Big Shots, Little Big Shots: Forever Young, Marlon, Midnight, Texas, The New Celebrity Apprentice, The Night Shift, Powerless, Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, Superstore, This Is Us, Timeless, The Voice, The Wall, and World of Dance.
There’s lots of data that NBC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
The Blacklist was a great show until they got away from the Red and Lizzy story. The writers were told time and time again to get back to the original premise of the show. That being said, I love Blacklist because of Spader. There is no character anywhere as amazing as him. Keep the Blacklist please. Give Red a love interest if it can’t be Lizzy.
I agree with Nate, the Blacklist is a great show and one of James Spader’s best roles. His character is intelligent but funny too. Do not cancel this show. I hate that shows I like always get cancelled. The networks are going to lose viewers to providers like Netflix (if Netflix is smart and picks this show up).
The Blacklist tv show is intelligence, very unique characters, fancy suits, excellence conversation, Mercedes Benz flashing stunts, action stunts, fancy restaurant stunts, Never Bored, again Never Bored, the show should not be cancel but should be bin from another TV Provider like Netflix. I watch more Netflix than cable. Maybe NBC should give me a bad rate cause I don’t use cable wifi only, more cheap. What I like about this Good Guy & Bad Guy. Raymond Reddington & Kate used to work for the government fighting for what right and we all get burn if we disagree on a… Read more »
I like The Blacklist please renew the series
Blacklist and Blindspot and Shades of Blue are the three best shows on TV! Why would you ever cancel them? Actors are the BEST and stories are too!
Please renew TAKEN.
How nice would it be if Netflix had – has the budget and snaps up THE BLACKLIST and makes things right for the die-hard fan. I only get to watch on Netflix so I dont know about the change in the show . I would love to watch on laptop but mad a promise not to watch without him, I am an idiot.
We like Blind Spot it took me a while to figure out things but now we never miss it.
Why take a #1 rated show and move it to another night????? Even though it is one of my favorites, it is hard for me to catch it so I have to tape it Maybe if you would not have had the lame Blacklist:Redemption you could have continued with some good writing. Really consider keeping Black List. It is really the focus of every group conversation instead of gossip.
The Blacklist (original) is a great show. It has drifted off tract a few times, but deserves to stay on. It is unbelievable that it would get cancelled and the new, lame Blacklist : Redemption would stay on You should consider staying the course and keep it on.
I agree with John’s comment. I LOVE The Blacklist. It’s not the same old schlocky soap opera kind of story. The characters are very real. To that end, please renew Blacklist Redemption too!! I think that is one great cast ensemble!
Please renew The Blacklist and Blindspot. So few shows have this kind of suspense and intrigue. They are what makes NBC special.
I LOVE THE BLACKLIST. I KEEP HOPING LIZ WILL BE RAYMONDS DAUGHTER, PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF WAITING FOR A REAL ANSWER AND I WAS HOPING RAYMOND WOULD FORGIVE KATE. I BELIVE THAT WAS ANOTHER FAN DISSAPOINTMENT WHEN HE SHOT HER.
Blacklist, Blindspot, Grimm. Loved these shows and couldn’t wait to watch each week and season !! Superstore, The Good Place , need to go !!
The Blacklist is one of the best shows we’ve seen on television in years!
Please say it isn’t so and keep it on.
