Last season, NBC launched a dozen new scripted TV shows. Some found success in the ratings but they schedule had a few ratings successes but far more were cancelled. Which will be cancelled or renewed during the 2016-17 season? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): America’s Got Talent, Blindspot, The Blacklist, The Blacklist: Redemption, The Carmichael Show, Chicago Fire, Chicago Justice, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, Dateline NBC, Emerald City, First Dates, The Good Place, Grimm, Hollywood Game Night, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Little Big Shots, Little Big Shots: Forever Young, Marlon, Midnight, Texas, The New Celebrity Apprentice, The Night Shift, Powerless, Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, Superstore, This Is Us, Timeless, The Voice, The Wall, and World of Dance.
There’s lots of data that NBC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Please renew Taken and Timeless!!! I don’t know why they are introducing such great new shows with such a limited run. Only 10 episodes for Taken. Come on, we need more Clive Standen – he is really good. I see James Bond in his future. And James Spader is amazing in Blacklist. Three great shows that deserve to be not only on the Fall Schedule but also promoted!!!!
Really hope Timless gets renewed – best show to air all year!
The Blacklist is one of the best written and acted shows I have ever followed. Perhaps a better time slot would help the DEMO range, however I will watch it regardless of schedule
Why did NBC leave Dish network ? Most of my shows that I watch are on NBC. Now I have to find them on another server. That is not how you. treat people who watch that network . Very upset
Today (Tuesday 18th) is S2 pitch day for Timeless. Fingers crossed, prayer circle, and send good vibes to NBC via Twitter/Facebook/Instagram. #RenewTimeless
I love Trial and Error. It’s so hilarious and creative and I love the cast. I hope NBC gives it a chance to build a bigger audience
Please keep emerald city!!!
Fingers crossed that Timeless gets renewed! Hope all will go well with the S2 pitch next week.
I like the blacklist & redemption both. They should keep them get rid of emerald City & shades of blue & superstore!! Need to put better quality shows on the air instead of garbage!!!
Blindspot is my second choice to keep because once I figured it out, I really enjoy it too. But James Spader has my heart in Blacklist and I do not really care for the spinoff, I want to see more of the original Blacklist storyline with Elizabeth, Kate and Denbay
The Blacklist is the BEST series I have watched in YEARS, I do not like Redemption and only watch it bcuz Blacklist is not on. Why are theses series being shown for such short seasons now?
The Blacklist is such a favorite of mine…watch every episode. Please keep this in the lineup.
Blacklist, Blacklist Redemption, Shades of Blue and Quantico are some of my favourites. Who votes for these shows and how can this fan get a vote? Get rid of that stupid All of Us, all the Chicago and Law&Order series and shows …nothing like shoving them down our throats. Most of the present day crop of shows are garbage and forces me to watch re-runs or movies on Netflix!
PLEASE KEEP BLINDSPOT!!!
Please keep The Blacklist. Reddington is an awesome character – I’ve been binge watching on Netflix. I’m at the end of season 3 and will start season 4 on NBC on demand soon. I just hope it’s as good…. but I have to say this for future series like this – please, no more babies – they ruin things. Some writer thinks they’re cute, but… just… say… no. Also I like “Shades of Blue”. I think people don’t like morally gray characters. I love them. I get bored with “knights in shining armor” or if shows start following too much… Read more »
