In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

once again, i agree with everyone. THIS SHOW SHOUDL NOT HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. what were you thinking CBS???????
I am so pissed off that they cancelled this show. It is a riot!!! Every one of the characters is great. Why do they keep stupid shows like “The office” on and get rid of Old Christine. I watch the reruns every single night on a local boston channel.
I think it’s the funniest show that I have seen for years! Christine should get remarried,to Mr. Harris. (Does he have a first name?)
This is the best show ever! Im watching it right now! It has everything a true sitcom needs. I wish the show was still on. I’m ordering every season on dvd
I have watched this show since the beginning. I was also a single mother (until recenlty) who works full time and is raising a son (who is now 13). I love wine after work and everyone I know says “you are just like her.” I miss the show terribly. TV has so many crappy shows on, why would they not renew/save Christine? Lifetime did have re-runs on from 6pm to 7pm nightly, which I loved because I watched it (with my wine) when I got home from work. Now Lifetime has screwed that up for dedicated viewers as well. COME… Read more »
I did not even realize that it had 5 seasons. I really got into it in the last season and think that it was a very funny show. Someone should bring it back!
bring it back
i really enjoy this show, it is one of the best shows on television. i can’t believe with all the crap that cbs and abc have on now they would cancel this one good show. the only shows that are any good on these networks are CSI, Two and A Half Men, and How I Met Your Mother. there is never anything good to watch on these networks. too bad, i was looking forward to watching a new season of Old Christine. the people at these networks wouldn’t know a good show if it bit them in the nose.
I absolutely loved this show. It was SO FUNNY!!!. I enjoyed all the characters and am really really disappointed that it was cancelled. Shame on cbs!!!!!
Bring back “old Christine “. A great cast. Very funny
It should have never been cancelled! Just ridiculous!!!
I didn’t find this show until it went into syndication this year, but it’s so HILARIOUS. Maybe CBS was not the right station, because I never saw it once during its run. I think if a more popular channel picked it up, it would really take off. I’ve talk to so many people who, like me, never saw it on CBS, but love it now, since it’s been in syndication. It’s funny, funny, funny!!
i never saw it either until it came on lifetime, i am just so used to the shows on those channels being bad that i never even gave it a chance. now it is one of my favorite shows. another reason i don’t watch shows on these networks is because they seem to cancel more and more shows without giving them proper finales. who wants to watch a show that just ends in the middle and leaves you wondering.
i am so tired of the best shows being cancelled. everyone i know watched this show and are still disappointed that it won’t be back. i watch only one of the new shows that came out this fall. what a terrible and weak new line up. huge mistake dropping christine or for no network picking it up. at least medium is still around. one of my few shows that i watch because of all the good ones being cancelled. at least i still have hbo and showtime shows. they get it right!
i absolutely loved this show. i think every woman who watches is has dealt with the same emotions that christine has had whether it be dealing with meanie moms and not feeling good enough or adequate or being the only person who thinks you’re funny. the dynamic of the characters is so good and relatable. i havent seen that since other shows like frasier or will and grace and cheers. i definately agree with everyone who said christine should have gotten remarried. oh my god i just love this show. all the characters are so great. hopefully networks will see… Read more »
I really enjoyed this show…it was a winner. I thought it was coming back in Jan. and am so disapointed that it was cancelled. I have seen every episode.
