FOX has decided to cut short the run of New Amsterdam, the dramatic TV show about an immortal cop from the Big Apple.
The series has had a rough ride at the network. Amsterdam was initially scheduled for Fall 2007 but was pushed back to mid-season. On top of that, FOX cut its episode order from 13 to eight episodes.
On the positive side, the series was scheduled for an unpopular Friday night timeslot but was ultimately given a shot on Monday nights.
Amsterdam’s season average of 8.34 million weekly viewers isn’t great but it certainly outperformed and outlasted Canterbury’s Law.
Though FOX considered continuing the story of John Amsterdam (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) for another year, the network ultimately decided his story had come to an end. Still, Amsterdam executive producer David Manson hopes that the series will live on and find a new home on another network. Will that happen? Stay tuned!

It was a great premise and you could go in so many different directions. Instead of flashbacks on events he has lived through, whole episodes could be done this way. What a waste. Maybe a different network will pick it up.
Okay I’m upset for this show being cancelled! I agree with comments about the reality shows. I’m sick of them and will rarely watch tv now because of them. It isn’t worth me getting involved in shows anymore because of the easy cancellations.
Why is it always the shows that I like get canceled? I think we are tired of Survivor!
What’s the deal? Why are you taking the show off the air? I know why because I like it that’s why. I’m tired of garbage tv. Let’s leave the trash on and take off the show’s that have character.

I hate FOX.
I am very disheartened by the decision to cancel this show, and I know that many of my friends and family are also extremely disappointed. It was a wonderful show, with such potential for history and fantasy to blend into a tapestry of vision onscreen. I am sad to see it go. I hope some other network picks up the show so that it might live on for all of us, its fans.
What a shame…it was original and entertaining. Will miss it.
Brilliant and Original. Of course the pinheads in suits would cancel it !!!!! They should move it to FX at least!!
Its now official I HATE FOX!!!!! I was willing to get them a new chance with New Amsterdam after the stunts they pulled with Firefly, Dark Angel and Keen Eddie but its officially over. Other than watching the morning news and the Simpsons (which I might just go over to CBC for) and Family Guy (which I’ll probably just go to TBS instead) I’m done. I don’t trust FOX anymore. Why is it that shows with original ideas get canned? I’m tired of reality TV crap & shows that all have the same general concept. Are people that stupid?
Don’t cancel New Amsterdam but please recast John Amsterdam’s love interest. They do not have any chemistry. I really enjoyed this show and Friday night is ok by me.
