ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

this one off but my soap operas I have been watching over the last 20 or so

This show was great, it’s sad that it was pulled over stupid ratings. The need to get rid of reality tv shows and bring shows like Off the Map back on. One season doesn’t really give it a chance to succeed.
This is horrible! I watched it on the weekends on hulu because I didn’t have time during the week. This is completely unfair to the cast, the crew, the writers, the directors, and to us fans who couldn’t stay up as late as we wanted to in order to watch this show. ABC should really reconsider their decision.
I’m very upset that Off The Map has been cancelled. It has been one of my favorite shows this season. It is the freshest medical drama of the year. Very different and the most entertaining show on ABC or any other network. ABC should reconsider cancelling the show !!!!!!!!
I can’t believe that they canceled this show. This was better then Private Practice and a close 2nd to Grey’s Anatomy. So disappointed. I thought ABC was better then that.
That is what I was wondering. Does the ratings take into affect that many of us use ipads or hulu? I think they had a little higher viewings then they knew of.
Aaron » The ratings don’t take those into account however they are aware of them. Unfortunately there aren’t as many viewing this way as you might think and the networks make less income from those viewings so they don’t impact decisions much.

finally a good show is aired, good actors, a really good story, a completely different scenery.. to bad ABC can’t decide to just make good television…
I cannot believe the show is canceled. I looked forward to WEd nights and stayed up later than I would normally just to watch it and now its canceled. Off the map was actually better than all these reality shows or criminal dramas…
Bad move Abc. This was a good show, remember a lot of us watch on iPad and computer so maybe the ratings were better than you thought!
I looked forward to it every Wednesday night…I am very disappointed. I would have thought it would do better. Does the Nielsen ratings capture the online viewers and PVR viewers?
Who decides what shows to cancel?!?! This is ridiculous, every time I get into a good show it gets pulled! Let’s get rid of all the reality tv garbage and get some shows like Off the Map back!

I liked the show but couldn’t find it when i returned from holidays!!! Areal shame to loose the adventure—some of the relationships were a bit much but the action and human aspect were good. Now what is there to watch?
I enjoyed and looked forward to one show that was awesome. For someone that doesn’t watch tv alot off the map was great !

This is insane!! I waited on pins and needles every week to watch this show 🙁 It seem like they always take the good shows and try to find something new, when half the new shows are awful anyways. They’re making a mistake!
