The Originals wrapped up its fourth season on CW on Friday night, and fans will have a long wait for the return of the series.
Why the long wait for the return of this series?
CW did not add The Originals to its fall schedule. The network is holding back the series, which started as a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, to midseason. That means at least a late 2016 start, but more than likely the series will return to CW in January.
The decision to hold the series for midseason was discussed by Mark Pedowitz at the CW Upfronts earlier this week. According to TV Line, he said:
“We have a very strong schedule. We still believe quite a bit in The Originals. We only have 10 hours, so we made a choice to [hold it] to further boost our schedule at midseason.”
As a fan of this series, this writer was confused by the announcement of the delay to midseason. In a recent interview, Julie Plec talked about future crossovers between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals for next season, but the creator wants to have those opportunities come up organically.
A delay for one of the series cuts off the opportunities for those moments. The two shows have different casts and stories, but even after three years on the air, The Originals has shown that it is still very much connected to the world of The Vampire Diaries.
SPOILER ALERT. On the finale, Klaus sacrificed himself in order for all of his siblings to live. Freya created a spell that would put her siblings to sleep after Marcel had her poisoned and bit Elijah and Kol. Klaus was daggered, and the final moments saw Marcel hiding him away behind bricks. Hayley drove off and left New Orleans with four caskets and Hope. Her mission is to find cures for the Mikaelsons.
Right now, it looks like she will be looking for that cure for nine months. That is a one very long wait. Are you surprised that CW did not put The Originals on their fall schedule? Tell us what you think.

Why they take off originals when so many of fans like me loved the show one show looked forward to every week it left without warning hope to see it back on soon
Please bring back the Originals! I heard it was shelved for fall but would come back this spring. Can anybody confirm please.
the originals is a great series, with amazing acting, characters and storyline. I really hope its not getting cancelled and continue further. However, I hope it stays true to the story and doesn’t go to extremes.
It’s bad enough that TVD was cancelled. Please keep The Originals on.. People might be turned off by the titles, but both shows are so well written and the actors are all have chemistry. Please keep this quirky shiow on. We love it! One of the shows we won’t miss!!

I’m actually upset about both of the originals and Vampire Diaries they both have been an addiction of mine both are great shows have been getting more and more interesting with each passing season I’m sorry to see them go it would be nice if Netflix or someone would pick them up
I hae been wondering what’s taking so long for this series to return and on top of that now I find out The Vampire Diaries is ending. Not happy especially since these endings are not at all measuring up to how good every season has been. Very disappointed and hope The Originals can continue at the least…
I am so mad at how they done TVD, and now with the Originals! !! I get all good things come to an end sometimes but how they done the characters to end these 2 shows is pure idiotcracy!! Your fans deserved better!!!!

I’m very wrapped up in this show. Having made personal trips into New Orleans Louisiana from my Husband’s Truck Driving schedule. I thought it was very awesome I saw the City. A very active town . Can’t wait to catch up with the Vampire mystery The Original’s flavor for an old city like French Quarter and Jazz music!
I like the Originals way better than Vampire diaries. The storylines are better and I love the characters. Now that I have Netflix, I have really gotten into this series. I have watched all 3 seasons since Christmas. Please keep this series running!!!
Gutted. I prefer The originals to the Vampire diaries. The storylines are so much better.
I am completely disappointed of this decision. I feel both the vampire diaries and the originals could go on forever. If they stop the serious, there definitely needs to be a crossover for a closure.
I hope characters from TVD pop up now and then in The Originals when TVD gets canceled. Damon Salvatore is sooooo dreamy. I don’t need Elena to make that show good. But when actors/actresses get involved off screen, the show is bound to suffer when it doesn’t work out and then the fans suffer for it. And THAT SUCKS! But what can you do?
