First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

please please bring back outlaw!!! I love this show try it on a different night in a different time slot or something.. No one really watches tv on friday nights!! This was the best new show of the season of all the networks put together. I’m extremely sad to see it go. This is the only show I actually watch on NBC. I used to watch Heroe’s cancelled I watched medium well I still do just on a different network now.. You guys should have never put Jay Leno on at 10pm it took up too many time slots and… Read more »
I said before the season started it was dead because of the Friday time slot. Still I gave it a shot and somewhat liked it, but won’t miss it too much compared to other favorites.
I liked Outlaw. It was current and entertaining. now i catch it on hulu. maybe the reason it didn’t get rating is because it wasn’t stupid enough the shows the networks leave on makes me think they have stock in the internet programming
Anything that gets talentless Smits off the air is a positive.
You’re being sarcastic, correct?
I love this show. I hope NBC will reconsider their decision and bring it back!
Iam so pissed that each season we get a bunch of new shows that are great, & they get cancled. I wonder why I should even bother watching them only to have them cancled after 2 episodes…..as if that is enough time, it crazy!!!!!
I knew that nbc would pull this crap. I really like the show and looked forward to it every week. It’s a shame that networks only seem to care about 18-49 year olds…..I guess the rest of us aren’t worth the effort, huh, EXCEPT WE ARE THE ONES WATCHING THE MOST TELEVISION……ESPECIALLY ON FRIDAY NIGHTS !!!!! This show is about JUSTICE winning and one man and team NOT being afraid to make sure it happens. We live in such a sad world that people don’t care about watching that. NBC gave it very little promotion….they seem to be spending all… Read more »
I think it is really sad that this really good show was cancelled. We keep so much garbage on TV, yet a really good show is cancelled.
I hope NBC really hears how upset the public is for the loss of this great show…
Such a LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m sorry to hear that Outlaw has been cancelled. Finally a great show to watch on Friday nights.
very sorry to see it gone already. it is a really good show.
I was disappointed that Lonestar was cancelled, but I am pleased that Outlaw is gone. I love watching Carly Pope, but the writing and plots were just not worth watching.
Thank God we’re entitled to our own opinions – because i feel just the opposite.
After the 2nd episode, i couldn’t help but ask “Why am i watching this?”
I thought Lonestar needed to go bye-bye, but …
I really enjoyed Outlaw.
Yes I’m very sorry to see it gone already. This is BS!! I have no idea why more people didn’t tune in. It had such a Law and Order feel to it. WTFE honestly. It was really good and now it’s gone. NBC you guys suck!!!
On a odd note, it does end on my birthday. Coincidence?…..yes.
There was nothing wrong with the show in general and it did have some good potential but I just felt like it was going nowhere and was missing substance.
All 3 of my new favorite shows have been cancelled now. I loved Outlaw the best. I thought The writing was good and it had a great cast ensemble! Jimmy Smits was perfect for the role!! I’m going to miss this show alot.
Shannon, Like I commented after the first season the producers went out of their way to insult people with a conservative viewpoint. By doing this they immediatlely lost 50% of their audience. I’m not a political person but all of my conservative friends stopped watching after the first episode for the reason I just discussed. Hollywood producers really need to keep politics out of their shows. If they don’t they need to fairly portray both sides or their show will probably be cancelled. If you look at my previous posts on this topic I predicted the show would be cancelled… Read more »
It’s an entertainment show, not news. There is no obligation to be objective. Your “conservative friends” need to stop seeing politics in everything.
Really so if a show portrayed people that had abortions as baby killers liberals should have no problem with it? If they portray gays as perverts or enviromentalists as “tree huggers” liberals should ignore it and watch the show? People regardless of their political or religious perspective do not want their side portrayed like crazy people. If contraversial issues need to be discussed they need to be portrayed fairly. If every conservative or liberal on the show is a buffoon of course it will upset a large group of people and the result will be the show will go off… Read more »
