First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

CRAZY thats all one can say about the cancellation of OUTLAW
The net works want people to watch stupid shows such as dancing with the stars American Idol all the thoughtless brainless shows.
Any show that needs one to be smarter than a lab chimp gets cancelled – I guess that is where the american people’s intelligence is LAB CHIMP status
BRING BACK OUTLAW
We loved this show – PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!! We always set it up on the DVR so we wouldn’t miss it. Best show on TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the second time a network has cancelled a Jimmy Smits show. Wow, I guess they really don’t know talent when they see it. Both Cane and Outlaw were great shows with great actors. I cna’t see how other shows reality or otherwise can survive when in my opinion are garbage compared to these two series. I hope that this network will bring Outlaw back, perhaps at a new time slot. It was a great series and a great actor in the leading role. Wise up NBC!
I am so upset that Outlaw was cancelled…..There are so many shows that remain on that really have no substance and finally along comes Outlaw that incorporated great subjects
that certainly occur in every day life and resolved them in a both logical and lawful manner.
I am so disappointed with this network. I can’t imagine why Outlaw was pitted against Friday night regulars that have aired for years. When the series was moved to Saturday night I am sure many viewers thought it vanished without notice thus creating its demise. PLEASE BRING BACK OUTLAW.
Of the few episodes I got to see I was always looking forward to the next “Outlaw” . I watch very few reality shows and rarely watch dateline. I enjoy shows about the judicial system. Jimmy Smitts is a good actor and is well suited for his roll in the show. I want this show back!
I LOVED THIS SHOW! It presented points of view of the justice system that we all need to know about. The title suited this show well. I don’t know why it was cancelled but don’t blame viewership blame your marketing department because if more people understood the concept of the show more interest would be gained. I imagine a show pointed out the flaws in our judicial system stepped on more than a few toes…How dare they put together a show that demonstrates the neglected rights of American citizens..BRING BACK THE SHOW
I’ve been looking for this show on my DVR and it hasn’t showed up in weeks. So I searched the NBC network on the guide through out the whole week and I couldn’t find it. So out search for it on the internet and to my sadden dissapointment I read that they canceled the show. Wow that was a blow to me I thought that was one of the best new series that was out. I’m really going to miss that show it seems that NBC is good for getting rid of my favorite shows like Heroes too. Dateline is… Read more »
What a disappointment that the show is cancelled. I would really like to see it brought back. The time slot was terrible though. Most people with enough brains to follow the show and love it are not the kind to be sitting home on a Friday night watching TV. Many of us may have been watching it on Hulu, faithfully, but not on Friday night. What is NBC thinking? It seems like a slap to Jimmy Smitts and his great co-stars. Such a bright, intelligent and thought provoking show, great acting and stories, great filming and sets.
I cant believe it was cancelled, it was a great show i watched it every week even DVR so I wouldn’t miss any episode. When it stopped come on I was so ticked,They always cancel good show before they have ever had a chance to take off. I am deeply upset, I hope they bring it back.
I’m a huge fan of Jimmy Smitts. This is the second show of his that has been cancelled. I’m really disappointed. I loved BOTH of of Jimmy’s shows. In fact, Outlaw was the only show on tv that I watched on a regular basis. It’s really too bad as the acting and the stories were great. We could use more great acting and less reality shows on television.
This was a great show. I really wish they would bring it back.
It is a shame that the only law and order shows are the gruesome ones, and not the charming ones like Outlaw.
We throughly enjoyed this show. Makes us so mad it seems that when you really get to like a show.. it gets cancelled.
Beginning to think we show just watch DVD instead of television!
I was deeply saddened to see this show cancelled. I have admired Jimmy Smits as an actor and first became a fan when he starred on “L.A. Law” as Victor Sifuentes and then again on “NYPD Blue” as Det. Bobby Simone. I became an even bigger fan when he starred on the best series ever “The West Wing” as Matthew Santos. I felt that when Outlaw came out that it would Mr. Smits greatest role on tv far surpassing the shows I mentioned prevoiusly. The acting was superb, great chemistry with the cast, mixture of comedy, drama and the little… Read more »
