First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

It’s almost not worth watching new shows anymore. AND I know that defeats the purpose of ratings – but instead of getting hooked on great shows only to see them canceled I feel like I should wait until at least the 2nd season to watch anything.
Outlaw was an excellent show with great character development. It’s a shame that new shows aren’t even given a chance to accumulate a following.
It is inconceivable that the reality shows and the multiple Law & Order shows continue when a great show with a talented cast and crew are shut down. I am so disappointed in the decision.
I guess they needed room for another ametuer hour show or dancing, skating, cooking with a B if not C Star show. The show was interesting with a good cast and interesting plots. Sorry to see it and other very good shows go. Too much reality and junk TV.
Law and Order LA was hoping that Outlaw would be canceled. They wanted to see if they could Jimmy Smits to take one of the leads in L & A LA.
this was the best show on tv. oh well guess i just wont watch anything
Too bad, I was beginning to enjoy the characters. The Friday time slot was bad, but when I showed at different times, we could TiVo it. What made the network think that most 20-50 yr olds would be home on a Friday night? At least the Defenders is on Wednesdays.
I so loved the show… storyline/writing was always great… I’m a big fan of Jimmy Smits so I was looking forward to a long relationship with this show… Wish they would reconsider putting it on another night…
I love Outlaw. I’m so sad it was cancelled.
Outlaw is the best show to appear on TV in decades. What are they thinking?
It tackles current issues and handles them very well.
This cancelation was stupid. The time slot was terrible, up against Tom Sellick! There were so many good time slots for this quality show.
I’m really disappointed that this show has been canceled – in my opinion it was the best new show this year. Reality TV is not for me so there is getting to be fewer reasons to turn on the TV in our house.
I agree, Reality TV really stinks! Give us our “Who dun it?” ANY DAY OVER THE REALITY SHOWS~
It’s funny the dumbest shows still being aired. I don’t get it. I like this show. Who rates these shows anyway. I want drama.
The outlaw TV show was one of three programs that I enjoyed watching. They should have kept it going longer, lots of shows don’t start out on top but catch on. Maybe another network will pick it up.
Boooo me and my husband are VERRRRY upset! Was a great show and first show that got me liking law shows! I can’t believe it but knew was coming once went to Saturday, Friday nites r worst nites to show a series on!
INBC, once again you made a mistake, first it was “The Pretender” then “the Profile” then “Life” and now “Outlaw” I’m am so fed up with starting to really like a show and then you cancel it. I have watched the”Today” show for 30 years you don’t show any loyalty to us the fans, I think I take my loyalty elsewhere.
My husband and I are so sorry to see this show cancelled. We also enjoyed Cain and it was cancelled. It seems like there is a really good show and you start watching it and then its cancelled. I do not understand.
