Tonight marks the season finale of NBC’s Parenthood. The ratings are down so will it end up being the series finale as well? Will the show be cancelled or return for a fourth season?
Parenthood debuted back in March of 2009 as a mid-season replacement series. The first season’s 13 episodes ended up averaging a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.38 million total viewers. The show was on the bubble but ended up getting renewed.
NBC didnt wait until mid-season to bring it back and season two kicked off in September 2010. With a full 22 episode season, the show’s averages dropped to a 2.1 in the demo and 5.34 million. Parenthood was on the bubble once again but, once again, it ended up being renewed.
This season, the ratings have dropped once again. The third season of Parenthood (not including tonight’s numbers) have averaged a 1.9 in the demo with 5.13 million. Based on the lower numbers at the start of the season, NBC only ordered 18 installments this time around.

Ordinarily, one would expect that Parenthood would be on the verge of cancellation once again. However, because the rest of NBC’s schedule is in such sorry shape, Parenthood’s ratings actually look pretty good by comparison.
Out of the 17 scripted programs that have aired on NBC this season, Parenthood has the sixth highest demo ratings, beating out shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Grimm. On our NBC ratings report card, Parenthood registers a firm “B.”
Based on the season numbers and the fact that Parenthood is co-produced by Universal Television, NBC’s own production company, it’s almost guaranteed to be back for a fourth season.

Amazing show. love love love it! Great acting you feel like you are in the family with them while you watch. I could watch forever. If nbc would replay old episodes more often or post all old episodes online (that work) that would be all it would take to get it to gain popularity because once you watch it then it is imposible to stop
Parenthood is a great down to earth show with a great cast. Alot of people can relate to the different situations on the show. Don’t disappoint us, please bring back for a 4th season. You won’t regret it.

I watch almost no tv. This show is the only show I enjoy. I will cry rivers if it is ever cancelled … my son has aspergers, “max” acts much of the b syndrome extreme;y well im so impressed. please dont cancel it its like therapy for me 🙂
Parenthood is our favorite show. Great acting and writing and deals with real issues. Wish the season would have lasted longer. We looked forward to watching it.Please bring it back as soon as possible. It is hands down the best show on TV and one of the few shows worth watching.
I am so tired of shallow, stupid reality shows and Biggest Loser taking over so much TV time.
What a great wonderful show !!! IT IS BETTER THAN THOSE STUPID REALITY SHOWS ANY DAY !!! It seems like any show that deals with human feelings gets canned !!

Don’t cancel another show that is so smart and the acting is great. There are so many of these great shows that get the ax and do not deserve it. Please keep this on the air!

I love the show and the movie. If they do get renewed they should have some tie ins with the movie by having some of the original cast do guest spots.
My Fiance and I LOVE this show, we just watched the full series to date on Netflix and then purchased Hulu just to catch up on the season 3 episodes. We are already so bummed the season is over! Please bring it back ASAP!
We love this show. Great acting and writing every week. Sorry to hear this will be a short season; however, very glad it was picked up for another season.
