Tonight marks the season finale of NBC’s Parenthood. The ratings are down so will it end up being the series finale as well? Will the show be cancelled or return for a fourth season?
Parenthood debuted back in March of 2009 as a mid-season replacement series. The first season’s 13 episodes ended up averaging a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.38 million total viewers. The show was on the bubble but ended up getting renewed.
NBC didnt wait until mid-season to bring it back and season two kicked off in September 2010. With a full 22 episode season, the show’s averages dropped to a 2.1 in the demo and 5.34 million. Parenthood was on the bubble once again but, once again, it ended up being renewed.
This season, the ratings have dropped once again. The third season of Parenthood (not including tonight’s numbers) have averaged a 1.9 in the demo with 5.13 million. Based on the lower numbers at the start of the season, NBC only ordered 18 installments this time around.

Ordinarily, one would expect that Parenthood would be on the verge of cancellation once again. However, because the rest of NBC’s schedule is in such sorry shape, Parenthood’s ratings actually look pretty good by comparison.
Out of the 17 scripted programs that have aired on NBC this season, Parenthood has the sixth highest demo ratings, beating out shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Grimm. On our NBC ratings report card, Parenthood registers a firm “B.”
Based on the season numbers and the fact that Parenthood is co-produced by Universal Television, NBC’s own production company, it’s almost guaranteed to be back for a fourth season.

I just watched all 3 seasons in the past 2 weeks and I can not believe I have been missing out on this show! Parenthood is the best show on tv.
Please do not cancel Parenthood………good show; good cast. Despise reality shows and this is good family entertainment. May be considered old fashion for younger people; but older people need good enertainment too. Need Season Four.
I love, love, love this show! My teenagers watch with me and my husband and enjoy it as much as we do! In fact, it’s the only thing that the teenagers want to do with us!
I LOVE this show and recommend it to my friends. I think that the writing is top notch and find the story lines intriguing. Of particular interest to me is Max – as a mom of a special needs child, I find the various view points of all the family members in living and dealing with Max spot on. Often, I am both crying and laughing through their daily lives.
My wife and I love the show. We love all the characters. Give it another year.
Our family’s favorite show and my two sons are both teenagers. Such a great show to watch as a family as it shows perspectives of both parents and teenagers. maybe it should be called “FamilyHood”. Let’s keep great shows like this and stop the flooding of the airwaves for ridiculous reality shows!!!
EVERYONE I know LOVES Parenthood….we are not all in the 18-39 bracket.
The ONLY reason the ratings have dipped for the 3rd Season is the Network’s fault. NBC kept allowing breaks of MONTHS between episodes and it was so difficult to keep
with the momentum of all the characters arcs.
We the audience unanimously adore it and want it back for a 4th season PLEASE!
Dear NBC, you can’t possibly cancel Parenthood. It is and has been such a wonderful show with excellent story lines. I so love the family-centered idea and the cast is super. Each member interacts with the other so very, very well. I don’t know what my Tuesday nights would be without this show!!!!!
This is one of the best shows on TV. It is so in touch with Real Life & Real Family issues/values. Anyone who watches this show can’t help but fall in love with the Braverman family. Please do not take this show off the air. There is not much left out there to watch on TV with such a great story line and that isn’t Reality TV. I would rather be entertained with the Braverman’s than SNookie, Kim, Kloe, or Kourtney, any day of the week.
This is one of the best shows EVER! I don’t know why more people aren’t watching it! It has to come back!
