The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
We love this show!
Please don’t cancel this show! There’s do much “edgy” garbage already on tv. TNT used to distinguish itself by airing more intelligent thinking person shows….get TNT just wants to follow the crowd.
This is upsetting that TNT has cancelled this show…we’ve just finished watching the 4th of the final episodes and this show continues to be clever and relevant. Ratings don’t necessarily indicate popularity or quality. There is just too much fluff on to pull people away from good shows. The ratings also are based on those watching live – with a 10 pm show, how many viewers DVR the show to watch on another day, like my wife and I do. They also used to show the previous episode at 8 pm, then show Rizzoli and Isles new episode at 9,… Read more »
PLEASE do not cancel Perception. It is one of the few shows I enjoy watching every single week. I never misS it.
Please do not cancel this show. I have never missed an episode. it seems every time I find a show that is smart, well written with an interesting story line it ends up cancelled. Not everyone wants to see blood and guts, sex and deception as a story line. Please do 6 cancel it!
A great cast and a great show. Find another home for Perception!
Oh no I really enjoy this show. There seems to be a trend right now to go for something more complicated with a story which weaves multiple plots throughout but that’s not for me. I think there is a huge audience (2.78 can’t be scoffed at) for these easier to watch shows where missing one episode doesn’t mean you’ve lost track of the entire story. This show was easy to watch while maintaining your interest and keeping you wanting more. You don’t have to be wide awake and taking notes of everything to keep up and a good story shouldn’t… Read more »

I enjoy Perception very much. It is original and unique. There was a time that when TNT was a haven from quasi – reality TV.
